Did first deep dive, 100 ft AOW certification dive this past weekend. My Aqualung Titan LX Supreme didn't breathe any different at 100 ft as it does just under the surface, which is really easy. The effects at 100 ft were so unnoticeable I thought about it as an afterthought while packing up gear post dive.

I've been looking at some recently available facts concerning the SR-1 Sherwood. Apparently, this is the best regulator in the world. I mean, the performance levels reported by Scubalab are almost unbelievable. Furthermore, looking at the overall design it is just exceptional. I can't say enough positive stuff about the internal engineering, at least as it exists on paper. However, there were some manufacturing flaws with the first batch of SR-1 regulators. If these have been ironed out then I don't see any other reg beating this one out, especially at the discount price of about $470.

So, while I don't believe that the OP's problem stems from actual regulator performance issues, there have been so many people coming here to brag on various regulators I am adding my two cents. Who knows, if the wife is actually an equipment wonk and knows what she is talking about then the Sherwood should be an easy sell.

I highly recomend the AquaLung Mikron. It is adjustable, very small and light weight. You almost don't know you have a reg in your mouth. No pulling or anything.
