When you have been banned, what recourse do you have to explain yourself ?

Have recently been looking at the posts or someone who has been banned and the the posts not open for further replies.

Why am I interested? This persons avatar shows an inland site in the UK where i have been on numerous occasions and used to live about 10 minutes away.

Suppose the question is what causes someone to be banned?
