Tassie_Rohan:
Whats a life without risk?

Some sage advice on this thread, especially from Reefwalker and Rohan from Tassie, but currently known as the mad Mongolian diver.

We all know that some parts of Bali are known for loutish behaviour among the drunken throng. But that's like saying seedy yobbos have been known to hang out in Phuket so I'd better cancel my liveaboard trip to the Similan Islands, or I musn't go to Disneyland because people have been mugged in LA. Two different things.

For my 2c worth, I would dive anywhere in Indonesia, and I have been hearing some great things about the diving in East Timor. The world's newest country has dive operators...well, operating. And I'm told the colour and light underwater is fantastic.

Risk: all things in perspective.

Well, I'm planning on spending a couple of weeks there later this year... though not in Kuta, been warned off there already. I've had Amed recommended to me by a nondiving aussie friend and I'm looking forward to exploring other areas.

As to risk, well, I've been diving many times in Dahab and the Red Sea and even last weeks bomb won't put me off going again. In fact if I hadn't already made arrangements and used up pretty much all my holiday time setting up a jaunt to South East Asia I'd head out there ASAP.

Sod it, bottom line is when it comes to bombs and risk 57 people were killed in London last year.

Sorry if I'm side-tracking. I've never been to these 2 cities. And I wonder how driving in Cairo compares. Between Cairo and many cities in India, Indian cities are just so gentle...

Good point Z. Mexico City and Manila are another couple of places drivers really are crazy.
