what is MOF?
mask over face? just guessing.

in terms of bad habbits...
-buddies disappearing without communication
-pointing a loaded spear gun at someone (other than fish), by accident but nevertheless
-blowing cigarette smoke into air fill machine (not really while underwater)

Most common bad habit I see, and too often do, is not buddy checking the buddy. So easy to skip if buddy is a regular or is very experienced and you are confident in your preparations, perhaps with all the redundancy you need. Still good to KNOW that your buddy has his air on, back-up reg or octo in correct place, dry suit hose connected, gas analyzed and computer set to correct gas.

I have a spastic left foot. You can see it in video -- periodically it just sweeps inward and backwards. It's an unconscious movement based on trying to get rotary stability. I developed it early on, and it's proved VERY difficult to break.

That one I got early on.

It's not really a habit, but I got called on something subtle and pernicious during this trip to Cozumel. I'm pretty compulsive about my pre-dive ritual -- dive planning and gear check -- but it turns out it's become kind of mechanical. I got reminded that we do these things for a REASON, and we're meticulous about them because it improves our SAFETY. They aren't optional, and one doesn't abbreviate them because the boat crew is in a hurry.

Easy to forget why.

Why is going deep "just because" such a bad thing? (provided you've properly planned said dive and are trained to said depth)

Cheers,
Austin

I think they meant without the planning and training. I don't see a problem with it either if you know what the hell you're doing.

Annoying/bad habbits :no :
* using hands to "swim"
* poor boyancy control
* thinking you know it all and having nothing else to learn

As for the MOF - this is one that I am guilty of. Have never been able to break it - just cannot tolerate the mask around my neck, so when I take it off, it generally goes on the top of my head. I know it's poor practice but the habit is there (I'm trying to break it Almitywife - honest I am :blinking: )

Cant see why its poor practice. If it works for you then use it!

Mask on neck is a pain with a necklaced reg there as well, especially if its a big mask.
