What do you use for that? Dow 111?

I just use cheap non-O2 compliant silicon that's been around the garage/dive box for a decade. Can't seem to use it up. 111 would work too. Don't use too much or pick the oring out every time. Just wipe any gunk off and relube if you have to do alot of wiping. The goobers mostly stick in the threads.

Whatever came on my PT-LED smells pretty bad (same with my Scout). Wonder if anyone knows exactly what it is...

Heser is a 3 C cell light made in Germany. Do a search here and I'm sure you'll find more info. Also check TDS. But with the US $ not doing well you are now looking at $250.00 for a back up light that was $160 delivered 2 yrs ago. I have Hesers and they are quality pieces of kit. Not worth the significant increase in price though.

Right, great lights, but too much extra for not enough extra, given the state of things.

Heser Tauchtechnik

Some manufacturer really need to step up and put out a light with current LED technology. Emitters have gotten a lot better than the ones used in ALL of these lights.

Here is a very small question about backup lights.

Heard somewhere that the twist bezel (like the Halcyon, PhTorpedo...) is preferred over the switch. However, I have heard of twist bezel flooding even with 2-O ring seals (AquaTec), but never of switch failure. Does having a switch make it non-DIR (canisters also have switches)?

This leads me to another small question (after reading ScubaDiving Mag review about lights). What backup light would you use <$80.

Warm OW non-tech diver learning DIR

A little late with the reply I'm afraid, but I'd suggest a Tektite Expedition Star would be ideal for you. I believe it's DIR compliant, and importantly it's under $70. I know several people who use these as primary lights for UK rec diving, and they're well made and reliable pieces of kit.
