I just wanted to check if anyone has had a microdiscectomy for a herniated disc? I have surgery Monday for a LARGE herniated disc and a disc fragment in the L3-L4 region. The doc laid out 1 day in the hospital, 2 to 3 days to light duty (work), and 2 to 3 weeks to full activity.

I was wondering how your recovery period was? And how long it took you to return to diving?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi!

I had a microdiscectomy in Feb. I think your docs dates sound about right, if not a little optimistic. I wasn't doing any work 2-3 days after surgery. I was walking around very very slowly. It probably took me a good 3-4 weeks to feel fully recovered.

It's been about 4 months now, and I am planning a trip to Thailand. I was hoping someone here would know if it's safe to go diving.

Has anyone else had a microdiscectomy and is now diving again?
