Where did this "floating island of plastic" idea come from anyway. I haven't read or said anything that claimed it was a "floating island."
Talk about exaggeration! Wasn't that your original complaint?

The youtube video that was linked in the other thread on this site claimed there is 7 million tons (did they weigh it?) of floating plastic, 10' deep and twice as big as Texas. No one has a picture of it but I'm collect money to do the research. Please send me all of your hard earned cash. Drink the Kool-Aid!

I answered this for the Hawaii Ohana forum but I can do the same for the RMO forum. this time I will use a different Hypothetical scenario.

If you find a total of 1/4 oz. of plastic that is in 1 square meter of ocean surface and everywhere you go within a 1000 x 1000 kilometer area you find the same result, then you can safely bet that 1 square kilometer has 250,000 oz. or 15,625 lbs per sq km and therefore he overall weight of all the plastic within that 1000 x 1000 km area is 15,625,000,000 lbs or 7,812,500 tons
And this hypothetical is based on only .25 oz of plastic per square meter.
I will be able to report the exact weight to area ratios that we find this summer, but based on this example, I can easily believe 7 million tons overall. The gyre is MUCH bigger than a 1000 sq km area.

Please explain to me how this scenario is impossible.

As the original poster of this thread, I find it incredible that a simple request has turned into battle between a ghost and the actual person requesting assistance.

To the "ghost" who states neither name, gender or location, your input is neither requested or warranted. If all you have to do in your life is disrupt, you are not welcome on this thread or any other thread. If you have issue with this, please feel free to PM me.
