GUE says that tanks are to have no extraneous markings as a means of proper identification. For instance, if you have a tank cluttered with useless stickers and markings it may make important markings, such as MOD or Mix less visible.
That makes perfect sense. Except I fail to see how a commonly used tank wrap will distract from a 3" MOD marking.
To me its just another one of those stupid arguments the GUE types like to drag out every time they want to feel superior to a diver trained by one of the popular sport agencies.

The most common argument is the one about how the sticker traps water hastening corrosion.

If you don't want a wrap Fine. don't get one. If you do that's good too.
I'm just getting tired of the DIR/GUE/UDT folks spouting this superior nonsense.

Were all divers, enjoying a great sport who cares about the rest of the nonsense!

Ron, easy on the agency bashing. "we're all divers, enjoying a great sport" remember?

I've never heard of a sticker trapping water, LOL. If someone has made that argument from ANY agency I'd probably laugh out loud. It clearly ignores the paint / galvanized coatings, and all of the other potential water traps such as boots.

If you have a set of doubles, just as an example. You have two 3" bands, and a 6" nitrox wrap, where exactly do you put the MOD marking without overlapping?

I suppose any 150+ft MOD sticker would be in direct conflict with a "nitrox" label, and as such could be distracting. Who knows.

Whoa, Nellie! No idea it was turning into this. I'm stepping away from the keyboard...Slowly....No sudden movements....Backing out through the swinging doors....Nothing but the sound of boots and spurs receding into the distance...Now silence. And suddenly, the saloon bustles with activity once again.

Ron - I'm headed over to Dolphin to pick up my tanks (without wraps) - Meet me there and I'll buy you a beer and we can discuss the finer points of Nitrox stickers, PADI, GUE, etc. :D

This document (GUE) (and this one (UTD)) explains the gaping holes in my education:

I'm curious though, what's the standard taught by PADI/NAUI/SSI/etc.? Do they encourage tank wraps? Mandate them? Require affiliated shops to enforce them?

I was referring more to the part about the calculations and such :D Interesting enough Ron and I did talk about other ways of marking. You should get the Voodoo Gas stickers :D If I ever use my tanks for anything but Air I plan to.

Always popular:D
