Tips for beginners:
- diving is a sport, it is a skill, and if you want to become proficient, you need to dive a lot
- there are many diving courses and certifications that are beneficial
- it's still underwater swimming, so you'd benefit from a skill to swim efficiently forward, backwards, sideways, turn, turn and reverse, do all this while descending or ascending in a controlled manner...
- and it will take time to learn but it's fun, really fun
- depth is not a requirement, you can do everything at shallow depth, where the sun shines and the surface is close
- become familiar with you buoyancy control device (BCD) and your regulators so that you can solve all the small issues that sometime manifest themselves; it's not the equipment issue but the panic that kills, usually (yes, of course there are exceptions, but a calm mind and previous experience make most minor issues a lot safer)
- do not take unnecessary risk, be safe!
