Hello all,
I've done a search for this and couldn't find anything, hope I'm not duplicating another thread.
Anyway, even though its short notice, I'd like to post a shout-out to all Melbourne/Victorian divers who dive in and LOVE the Port Phillip Bay region. The Government is proposing a dredging program of the Bay which will cause a massive silt-out of the entire bay for a period of years, effectively ending diving in the Bay. We will be required to go elsewhere for diving and it will take years before the Bay is returned to its current pristine state.
I don't know about anyone else, but this may in fact kill my LDS, who run a high percentage of their dives to sites situated inside the Bay.
A snorkel protest has been organised for Australia Day - Wednesday, 26th January, 2005 at Pope's Eye, inside the Bay. The protesters are leaving from either Portsea Pier or Queenscliff Pier at 9.30am. We will be snorkelling inside Pope's Eye with a flotilla of boats with fisherman, environmentalists and others in the boats. To register your interest, please visit www.rescueourbay.com and sign up.
They are hoping for 200+ divers to show we are against the dredging.
Cmon - show your support!
