Was in the pool with my Z2 last week - she breathed a bit wet...

.. should I be concerned? Or is this typical "new reg" behaviour?

(I'm still in love with it tho ;))

You might want to have it checked, I've had a B1 and now a T2 and both were completely dry - even completely upside down. And I have a Z1 Octo, the little I've used it, it's also been dry.

i bought a T2 a few months ago. I really like the performance of it underwater. the only thing that concerns me is the vibrating of the diaphragm when i breathe out of water. I've been told that this is normal for some regs..but in my shop i've seen rental regs not vibrate out of water ..i mean , whats up with that?, rental regs suk and my t2 is a top of the line reg, why didnt atomic look into that??

Why didn't YOU look into that before pluncking down $1200 on a reg?

:-)

But seriously, did you buy the reg to breath underwater or out of the water? My AL Legend LX Supreme honks a bit out of the water as well, and though only costing half of what a T2 goes for, it too is a "top of the line" reg.

Unless you have extensive plans to breathe your reg out of the water I wouldn't worry about it.

Well its not something that I had the chance to check really, my reg came through my shop on a special order, so its not like buying it in the shop and testing it there,i had to wait until it arrived on island before i could test it, and if i wanted to return it, it would be much more difficult because of the special pricing etc etc

and i obviousely did look up all the special features before i payed that sort of money.Yea i know the legend lx supreme is a top of the line reg, i was'nt saying that the T2 is the best, its just quite good.

All i was saying is that i know the vibrating sound doesnt mean much(unless its coming from the first stage..thats what 'Honking' is called), but naturally people get a little weary when they hear it ,and i thought that atomic would find some way to stop it in order to prevent some of the confusion and questioning about it.

By the way have you ever heard an Apeks vibrate on the surface?? It's much rarer because when they were designing their diaphragms they messed up,but within this mix up they managed to accidently create a diaphragm that is much less likely to vibrate. Thats why a New Apeks diaphragm actaully looks kinda old and crinkled.

My Z2 honks on the surface too...

Just as a little update - my instructor suggested taking the regs to the shop for "de-tuning" as they were freeflowing a lot in the pool, first time I tried them.

Guy in the LDS said "he'd never serviced an Atomic before" (which seemed a bit odd, considering he sold them - may say something about reliability?) Said he waited for his Atomic guy to pop in before doing it.

When I got them back they seemed loads better - and were great in the sea! Job's a good 'un. :D

Just as a heads up, I have found my B2 to breathe better and better the deeper you go. 60': fantastic. At the surface: completely unremarkable.

Excellent point. I found that my B2 breathed better as well, as I got deeper, to the point that I have to de-tune it just a bit when I reach about 80-90 feet. Almost feels as if the gas is being forced into your mouth.

Both mine and my wife's B2s honk out of the water (as does my Atomic SS1). It has never affected performance at all. I'm a *big* fan of the Atomic.

For those of you in the know, what does Atomic mean when they talk about the second stage using metal parts?

Materials: State of the art metals. Monel™ parts are used internally in the first stage for its high strength; corrosion resistance and oxygen compatibility. Type 316 Stainless Steel, Palladium/Zirconium coated Brass, and Titanium are used throughout the second stage.

I'm assuming that the second stage is plastic unlike Mares' second stages being all metal. So is the air barrel metal?

Thanks for your help.
