Hello all,

I am interested in getting an atomic regulator and was wondering if any of you think it is worth spending the big bucks for the T2 or is that overkill?

Thanks for all your input.

If you plan to use air and nitrox interchangeably, then don't get the T2. You have to get it cleaned every time you go from air to nitrox....at least from what I read. Don't know if people actually do it. I spent a lot of time thinking about the the most versatile atomic reg. I went with the M1. Comes environmentally sealed, surge cover, can use oxygen up to 80% if clean, wide exhaust tee. I can always add the swivel if I want later.

The T2 will serve you well, It'll be fine for Nitrox use too!!

A freind of mine has one of the first ones made. It has over 12000 dives on it with just the recomended servicing, and is still going strong.

I've had the Titanium model for years and love it. It's good for 40%. If you need more than 40%, you are probably going to be diving with a stage or pony and need a second reg anyway. I really like what the sales rep said "the only thing that can make it corrode is hot sulfuric acid." I don't plan on diving even in cold sulfuric acid. Salt water, chlorine-----no worry. Seriously, I do wash mine after every day of diving. It has a great warranty and service interval. And, it's SO LIGHT. Buy the Titanium model. It will last a very long time. When you divide the number of years of service you will get out of it into the price it is a very small amount per year.

There is no doubt they are nifty and have a great deal of appeal to the well heeled diver wanting something different and/or wanting a way to show off their wealth. But make no mistake about it - it's overkill.

A titanium reg will do nothing that a chrome brass reg would not do just as well or, in the case of high percentage nitrox, do better.

Titanium regs are lighter and that is a consideration if you are consitently within a pound or so of airline baggage weight limits, but once you reach the water, you just have to add another pound of lead anyway, so on the boat you are going to weigh the same either way.

I have the T2 and love it. I got it as an x-mas gift however so if i was buying one on my own i would have just prob got the B2. Love how light the T2 is, and it breaths great.

I don't know if anyone actually follows atomic's suggestions, but the manual states that the T2 (and ONLY the T2), can't be used interchangeable with air and nitrox. Once it is dedicated to EAN, then it can handle blends up to 40%. If you go back to air and then feel like diving nitrox again, it needs to be cleaned. The B2, Z2, and M1 can be used interchangeably with blends up to 40%, and the M1 up to 50%. Again, this is just what Atomic says, not me.

One thing to keep in mind regarding the T2 (besides the price) is that Atomic states that you must decide at the time of purchase whether you will dedicate the regulator for NITROX or Air.

Since I just finished the NITROX course at the end of last summer I decided to go with the B2 model for the following reasons.

1. I didn't want to buy 2 regulators (1 for NITROX, 1 for Air)
2. The difference in weight was about 8 oz. (T2 is 8 oz less)
3. The second stage in both models is identical other than the Titanium swivel on
the hose to the second stage.

After considering those three things I went with the B2 model. It had everything that the T2 had except the high price and lower weight (8 oz.).

The B2 is good for both air and NITROX up to EAN 40 I believe.
