And now for something completely different....

:D

Break time is over, this thread is officially back on topic!!!!

Just buggin' ya Goose!

On topic....hhmm....

How about a question for the cops then?

We all know every profession has bad apples. In your profession what percentage would you think it is? In another thread we mentioned the proverbial 20/60/20 rule (20% great/ 60% average/ 20% bad).

I dont think that our percentage of bad apples is as high as 10 percent. We have a much more scrutinizing selection process than most other profesions, so I think our numbers are maybe in the 5% range, or even less. Just unfortianitly abytime one of our guys does do something bad, its all over the news, so it looks like our numbers are higher

I have nothing against the officers, since they do their job, whatever it is.

I just rant against the police/insurance system. I happen to love cars and I have a sports cars and a sport motorcycle. I enjoy the acceleration on regular roads, and aceleration + speed on track. However, since my money is limited, I use them to do my everyday driving as well, so I need to get insurance for that.

I got a 42 for 35 mph, and a 64 mph for 55 mph. I admit responsability on these ones, even though I was alone at those times. I could have been lucky with a different officer, but that's not the point.

Besides the small fine for each, this is gonna cost me about $3000 dollar, since my insurance will go up on the two vehicules for 3 years. Before the incident, I had the best rating (maximum discount) available at my insurance.

I don't find this fair to be penalized because of the number of horsepower of my vehicules.

I would even add that compared to average driver, I have additionnal training to handle special situations and am more likely to avoid an accident.

I would even argue that high performance cars can brake MUCH harder than regular cars. So if you're reasonable (maintains following distance etc..), driving a sport car is much safer...

I actually saved me once when a guy ran a red light and was coming right at my left side.

Meanwhile I will still need to fork those $3000.....

I kinda skipped about oh... 25 pages, so I'm not sure if anyone asked this one yet, but would you rather be shot in the leg or OC-sprayed? While I have never been shot, being OC'd was the most uncomfortable thing I had to endure.

If I had my druthers neither....Speaking of capstun....There was an unruly crowd in the parking lot of a local nightclub, several of my officers were already there as I was pulling up, several others were enroute, as I was pulling into the lot one of the officers had a can of OC in his hand and was advising an obstreperous gentleman to stand down lest he be hosed; the gentleman failed to comply and the officer promptly capstunned himself in the face, thus removing himself from the fracas, as I stared in disbelief one of my other officers was laughing so hard as he drove up that he hit a light pole, thus setting off the airbag and knocking himself unconscious.....Now I have a stunned crowd, a policeman rolling the ground shouting in agony, an unconscious officer and several officers helpless with laughter, so I jump up and shout:"If they do that to themselves, just think about what can happen to you if you do not clear this area".......

5%! Wow, I think all the companies I've seen need to take some lessons from your managers. I've always felt the 20% rule of thumb was conservative.

As for the news problem, it the same for us. If there is an accident with an aircraft it's all over the news but they seldom report the actual cause after the investigation. Plus their facts are almost always wrong or incomplete. Unfortunately bad news sells.

I hope someone hasn't answered this already. If so my apologies for asking again. My question is this; If an officer states he is letting you off with a warning, and doesn't write a paper warning, does he log that in the computer? Meaning, should another officer pull me over will this officer know of my previous warning? :martian:

From speaking with the guys that have been at the station for the last 25-30 years...it happened alot! But back then, they just loaded the guy up in a squad and dumped him off at home. OWI didn't have the publicity it has now.

It's unfortunate that this officer (Sgt.) had this happen to him. Hopefuly he can get some treatment and continue with his duties. I don't think this is reason alone to fire him.

yeah..i remember my dad coming home and having to "get" the squad (unmarked) in the morning with my mother..lol Or the Police picnic and parties we had at our house....whoa...those guys and gals made the most of their time off.

That is one of the funniest police stories I have heard... a close second was when I was watching people get their annual OC spray training and this female office was finally getting to the point of where she could function again. Well she decided to get a drink out of a drinking fountain, turned the little valve and watched the spray of water hit her directly in the face, reactivating the OC. Kinda felt bad for her, but it was still funny to watch.
