Every month, members of a local church send all the troopers at my office a card telling them how much their work is appreciated.

I've had people thank me for being out there, doing my job. This was after I gave them the expensive ticket.

Why thank someone for doing their job, its their job? No one is thanking me for doing mine?

In Washington it is unlawful for any state employee to accept a gratuity. I was told the legislature passed the law because too many legislators were accepting gifts and there was concern this was influencing their votes.

If I lecture someone, I don't give them a ticket. If I had to choose between a courteous tongue lashing or a ticket, I'd take the former.

I like that idea, otherwise we could teach our state employees to become corrupt in a hurry (look at Africa), not that they already are...............haha.

PS. Thanks D Herb Man, pass some of that S.

whoawhoawhoa... as a former state intern, I'll argue that many are already corrupt/ lazy taking advatage of the state. but thats just an outsider's perspective

I used to receive "thanks" all the time. What I told them was I'd rather have a decent raise because my bills were not payable with thanks.

Sorry dude, that's Herb as in Herbert (my last name). ;)

H2Andy, Attorney is a thankless job. Same as I tell my wife.
