Lake Tahoe:
5mm one piece suit with 3mil hooded vest, gloves, booties, 5 lb Freedom Plate, jet fins, 8 lbs on separate weightbelt, steel 72, perfectly weighted.

At home in Norcal ocean:
7mm two piece freediving suit attached hood beavertail style, 5 lb lg FPC-V4 plate, jets, gloves booties, 10 lbs on rubber belt, steel 120, perfectly weighted.

Florida:
Don’t know yet. Wondering what it will be like dive water that warm and how to configure myself.

1/2” two piece Rubatex G231-N attached hood urchin suit for water below 46 degrees. Please don't ask, I don’t want to be responsible for buying y’all new keyboards after you spit your beer all over it.

Tech trained TDI in 2001.

Not tech trained, scientific trained 2015, but I did ask....

Belize:
5mm two piece farmer john, a tad warm shallow..., AL80, belt 4 lb., integrated 4 lb., shoulder ditchable 2 lb., plate 10 lb. with lead mid-high, heavy by 2 lb., near neutral fins, frog kick.

Nor Cal:
5mm bottom 10 mm top FJ, AL80, belt 8 lb., integrated 10 lb., shoulder semi-ditchable 4 lb., plate 10 lb. (heavy)

Nor Cal:
10 mm two piece FJ, rarely cold, AL63/AL80/LP80, belt 14 lb., integrated 10 lb., shoulder ditchable 2 lb., plate 10 lb. (roughly, dialed for neutral shallow. Yeah, its a lot. I'm feeling liberated by the notion my 5mm two piece might just be OK for summer Monterey, its almost like just wearing a swim suit in comparison)

with a single, i need about 10lb and put it in cam band pockets.

mission specific:

Dry - single tank (steel) w/ 16# plate - no weight (fresh water)
Wet 5/7mm 1 piece single tank (steel) - 8# in pockets on waist (fresh water)
3mm shorty single (steel) - 0#-2# on waist (fresh water)
3mm shorty single (AL) - 10# in pockets on waist (salt water)

This causes me pause, I was just posting about the need for detachable weights.

I've done a few (maybe 500 dives) without detachable weights in conditions where a detachable weight could have been part of good emergency response but wasn't likely needed.

Considering if it's now complacency, I justify it in my mind I can ditch and swim up from those dive profiles.

It's the dives where my equipment is: Tank, reg, mask, fins and maybe a camera.

....I suppose I could start carrying a rolled snorkeling vest again on those dives... But frankly, i just don't... Can't defend why I don't carry it.

If I need a wetsuit, I'll throw in a weight belt with enough to get me buoyant if I ditch it.

The majority of my hours underwater without an overhead I make sure I have detachable weights. It's just the little monkey dives that I neglect the practice.

Most ditchable weight I've carried is 45lbs. Mainly because I didn't originally calculate my buoyancy right in new thermals (read snowmobile suit) for my huge drysuit and needed to keep adding lead. Eventually two belts worked out to be the best solution at the time.

Yes.

Depends on where I am. 5C/30C waters, salt/fresh.

Anywhere from nothing to 28lbs .... I rarely do the 28lbs unless the circumstances call for it... there are better configurations for the other 99% of the time ..

- Single Al80, 3-5mm wetsuit, steel plate -> 2-8 lbs. (depending on wetsuit thickness/age) of non-ditchable lead in trim pockets on cambands, none on waist.

- Single Al80, drysuit with thin/sub-tropical undergarments, steel plate -> 8 lbs. of non-ditchable lead in trim pockets on cambands, 10 lbs. of ditchable lead on rubber waist belt.

I really like these....

edit: There are numerous styles of these, quick dump (shown), standard pocket, and a Velcro faced that works with your tank strap. And they are inexpensive!
