Are 2.1 megapixels sufficient for underwater photography?

My understanding is that you need 4meg to roughly equal film.
 
2002 feels like a decade ago !!!!

The image below is from a 5 MP camera (5060) - I cropped away around 50% of the original pic.

I guess by today's standards you should be looking at around 7 MP.

And yes I am bored otherwise I wouldn't be responding.

Depends on what you mean by sufficient. Yes it will takes pictures, just don't expect to win any awards. For some decent shots you should have at least a 4.
