I am rebuilding a DA Aquamaster into a Royal. I have been cutting the first stage diaphragm out of 3/32 inch EPDM for previous builds. That thickness seems to match the thickness of the vintage diaphragms I remove. Works fine. This time I wonder if I should revert to 1/16 EPDM which appears to match the material in a service kit OR can I use a cut out from a 1/16 inch Dura H 70 silicone square. I moved to the thicker material because I had problems with getting a good seal.

Would a thinner material be more "responsive" during the breathing cycle? Would the silicone material be better and last?
