Yeah I get the risk of no flow on the flow side of the tool, I guess it’s ok to keep the lever height above the tools range then.

I have Vance Harlow as well, just that I had decided on finishing the other book - “reg saavy” first before making my first attempt at reg repair. Intend to finish Vance’s book next.

I guess a pool test on a weekend will give me a little more confidence in my repair effort rather than overthinking everything while sitting in my armchair..

It's fine for lever height to be above tool range.

If you can understand reg savvy, Vance Harlows book will be a walk in the park.

I hear you re overthinking, I used to obsess, now not so much.

Good luck with ya journey.

Hi all, ive been working on my xtx regs. So far ive had the lever exactly level the rim.
Then use the screw in/out the orifice to make it free flow then turn in a smidge.

Its breathing at 1.2 .

Purge works, the side purge works. But i cant get it to free flow in land.

Is this ok?

Just to make it clear, when you tap the purge button it does not freeflow? It will not freeflow if you press and hold the purge.
If above is the case, no, it's not OK. If reg passes flow check using the gauge, my guess your cracking spring is wound too much.

Tap no free flow
Press and hold doesnt free flow either

So back up ? On the orifice? Make the lever rise above the spring?

Just bought brand new DST+XTX40+XTX50 set and tried lever setting tool, this one

Just wanted to see how the reg is adjusted out of the box. IP was good and breathing was fine. Then tried how the adjustment would be if I use the lever setting tool and it was really off. If I do the adjustment with the tool there's barely any flow after that when I press purge button, quite useless tool.
