If you have too much fun, someone will find a way to rain on your parade.

Truer words were never spoken.

I don't think we would keep diving if it wasn't fun, so therefore it is somewhat of an "unspoken acceptance" that we all have fun diving.

For my own experience, I REALLY like to dive. I achieve a Zen-like state of relaxation when I dive. For me, it is a form of therapy and a chance to escape the stress of the world.

If people didn't enjoy it then they would invest the large sums of money into a investment that will never pay off for 99% of the people here. Most of the questions asked here are questions that helps make people better divers, which makes their time in the water more enjoyable. I personally have enjoyed every single one of my dives.

if this was a SEX forum you wouldn't necessarily see glaring stories about how much they enjoy sex.... that's a given... what you would see is posts about WHO should be on top or which side of the bed....... etc etc etc.... it's all about maximizing your enjoyment of what is already a given - a love of the experience of (diving). Folks here are just trying to give you what THEY think will help in this endevour.

People have fun diving? Wow. How'd I miss that? Seriously, I dive a few times a week in freezing water with a couple hundred pounds of gear on and I would rather be doing nothing else. It doesn't get much better.... Maybe on top of Rainier, but I have been lazy and haven't made the trip yet this year.

Merxlin,

Everytime I don my mask and put my reg in my mouth, it's a sheer joy!

I even get a kick of just sitting on a barren bottom and making bubbles.

People don't post about fun dives in Basic Scuba. You can find them in the regional sections. Most people don't look there unless they are planning trips to dive in the area. I've made the suggestion that we need a Trip Report section where all the fun things are in one place.

You know, this is a good thread. People don't tend to post too much on this board just to say, "Here's a description of the great dive I did today." I don't -- I don't think anybody would be interested in reading it. But on reading the original post in this thread, I realized how much I enjoy reading OTHER people's reports of their dives, particularly if they are well written or accompanied by good pictures. Maybe we should all share more.

And yes, diving is still fun -- whether it's admiring the brilliant colors of vermilion rockfish, accompanying a novice diver for an experience dive, or looking over and admiring my rock solid buddy during an ascent drill, it's all good.

Fun? Hmmmm let's see....(flipping pages in logbook...)

One set of recent dives was in Cozumel: "great people, water wonderful and warm, vis GREAT, lots of marine life..."
Another entry: "search and rescue for a fellow's lost TEETH (dental work) in a murky lake. Vis-one foot. Hovered over the bottom and WE FOUND IT!"
Or on another page: "Built a do-it-yourself housing for my video camera, complete with home-made controls to turn it on and off. It worked! Now, I'm an amateur videographer--look out Mr. and Mrs. Hall--here I come!"
Another set of entries: "Gulf of Mexico-performed several fish counts for REEF. Wow, what a list of species and in what numbers! Sure makes up for the cramped berth on the liveaboard. Great crew, by the way."

I could list more, but don't want to bore you with my "no-fun" dives (said tongue in cheek). Point is there is so much to do diving that I don't know how anyone could get bored or NOT have fun. Certainly, diving must be so much fun that it's the EXCEPTION when one does not have a good time. It's sorta like the news. It's the exceptions that get reported, and we see people at their worst. Naturally, if we watched only the news we'd get the idea that life is made up of only really terrible things. In fact, it's just the opposite.
Diving is fun. Maybe we need to report more on that. Good point and question to start a thread!

Love it! Diving is still fantastic everytime I get in the water, even after thousands of dives. I still get a thrill every single dive. Thanks for reminding me to remember...
