I used an old car tyre inner tube...really hard wearing and look very techie....and the best part is they are free....really hard putting them on though:doctor:
 
I think putting protectors on tanks is a lot like putting plastic covers on your furniture. Yeah, it'll keep it looking nice, except that it does so by making it look like crap.

Better to just use it and risk having it look used. You don't win any points for having the tank that looks newest... especially if no one can see how new it looks under the protector.

If its high visibility you want get some High Intensity Retro-reflective tape. Attach it to your cam band your wet/dry suit or wrap it around your tank and fuse it to itself. You can Sew it in place as well (use 100% poly or nylon thread, cotton blends will rot out)This is the stuff you find on Military, Police, Fire and Rescue units rescue gear for high vis in low vis situations. This will get noticed...
