Just to give you an idea to the kinds of conditions we get, here are shots from two dives I did yesterday. Notice the huge different in water color and clarity! We went from a "very good" 40-ft vis in Carmel to a "typical" 15-ft vis in Monterey. Boat travel time between the two sites is 35 mins. The people that I dive with are top-notch cold-water DIR divers. Btw, this was my first time ever shooting wide-angle so I apologize for the quality.

Nice pics though! It looks like you super imposed your dive buddies into the shots. :)

A newbie like me can learn a lot by seeing the configuration of their gear.

nice pics man. honestly... surreal! i can imagine jaws coming out through the abyss through the kelp. gives me the shivers.

Thanks for the compliment. It was a gorgeous day in Carmel and there's nothing like swimming through the kelp forests. Hopefully next time I'll be able to get a shot of one of the many harbor seals that sometimes tag along for your dive.

Thanks for the pictures chilipion. Those pictures are taken off of the California coast?

Hi Mike,

Nice pics and thanks for the link, very graphic.

How far are you from Santa Cruz? Just found out I will be in Santa Cruz for sales meeting in early November, maybe we can hook up for a cold one or two.

Cheers,
Drew

Randy,

Yes, the set with the turquoise-colored water was in Carmel and the green-colored water in Monterey. I feel so lucky to live so close to great dive sites.

Hey Drew,

Thanks for the compliments. I'm not too far from Santa Cruz at all. It's an hour's drive and one that I'd gladly make to hang out. Let me know the dates as soon as you lock them down. When you say "cold one or two" I'm hoping you mean dives ;P

Hello All,
I would recommend the course to anyone who wants to bring their diving up a notch.... as many has said it does "Raise the bar".

Shugar... don't mind the chatter on the boards.. there's too many people trying to learn "How" to DIR dive from the net. They usually get the "take the course" reply.... there's a whole bunch of stuff that you can't learn from just reading.

Mike, We got to get together and dive some time... I'm pretty sure we have some dive buddies in common. I took both my DIR-F's here.. first in Folsom (silt everywhere!) and Monterey (that one I passed).

I did my cert in Anilao and Imiss the warm water but then again Monterey diving is something totally different.... There's nothing like walking into Monastery and hangging out at the edge of the canyon starring into the abyss :)

in your signature Sacramento UE .... i remember sometime ago when i was in old Sac, we went up to IONE for some fishing on the lake. the water was soooooo cold yet no ice.

i enjoyed the trip between Sac and Ione, glittering vineyards.... do they really work in scaring away the birds?

do you explore the SAC river?
