just dished out $58 for the reading materials. kinda expensive but i guess it will be an eye opening read:)

It’s a great book (I’m assuming you are talking about JJ’s “Doing It Right: the Fundamental of Better Diving”) but they need a second edition soon, IMHO, as DIR is constantly evolving. There’s also a new GUE-approved book by Dan MacKay—“Dress for Success, The Essentials of Diving Part I: Equipment.”

as it is DIR -Doing IT Right , it more or less says it all. It's going back to basics- simplicity and functionality.

Self-sufficiency and boils down to preparation prior the dive (gears plans etc.)

the best is Anyone can Abort without explanation. These entails having good trust among buddies. regular buddies that is.

Hats off to JArod, George and the WKPP team!!

some nice reads :

Yes, in Singapore with Gideon Liew (Living Seas)—then off to Tioman, Malaysia, for the dives.

Damn. I need to move to Southeast Asia. My DIR-F course featured 50F, 15-ft vis, green water in a drysuit, gloves and hood. Must... resist... warm-water... urge.

If it’s any consolation, the less comfortable condition and more gears (to manage) probably gave you a more comprehensive/challenging training experience.

Just to give you an idea to the kinds of conditions we get, here are shots from two dives I did yesterday. Notice the huge different in water color and clarity! We went from a "very good" 40-ft vis in Carmel to a "typical" 15-ft vis in Monterey. Boat travel time between the two sites is 35 mins. The people that I dive with are top-notch cold-water DIR divers. Btw, this was my first time ever shooting wide-angle so I apologize for the quality.
