Doesn't your credit card company require you to notify them when you plan to be using the card outside the US? I doubt they'll send any large sums of money to Bonaire without you authorization.

I suspect the rental car company is satisfied with your $1000. Probably a done deal.

You're probably right and I did advise the CC company prior to leaving. So now to learn from my mistake, what amex are you guys using that bonaire actually still accepts that covers their trucks?

Thanks for your input.

Unfortunately I've witnessed situations where changing the CC # did nothing. I had a approved recurring charge that continued to go through despite changing the #. No idea how that was even possible, perhaps due to previous auth?

Dave

My experience is just the opposite, everytime my business CC gets compromised they re-issue a new card, same account, different number, everywhere the previous card was being used on file my vendors call me to tell me their charges don't go through anymore and I have to give them the new card number.

American express is American express, if anyone takes an American express card they take them all. Also the card doesn't matter in regard to the insurance, you're buying a policy from American Express the company, it doesn't matter which card you have, you just have to have one. You sign up and everytime you use the card to rent a rental car you are going to be charged for the policy, either $20 or $25 per rental depending upon what you sign up for. If you rent a car for one day you are going to be charged the $20 or $25, if you rent a car for 10 days you are going to be charged the $20 or $25.

This is a primary CDW insurance policy, that's the big difference, using a CC to rent a car you sometimes get a free secondary CDW insurance policy and with a deductible and a ton of stipulations and exceptions. You can get the same thing for free from a very limited number of VISA cards, see my previous post.

My AMEX card has the rental insurance but it doesn't cover trucks SUVs or luxury cars. Read what coverage you have carefully.

You're referring to the free secondary CDW coverage, not what is being discussed, we are talking about the add on primary coverage that is not free.

I didn't see that one might not be on the blue sky cards I'll have to look again.

I'll just note that the Premium Car Rental Protection program can be added to ANY Amex card--there is no special Amex card tied to this program. If you already have an Amex card of any type, you don't need to apply for another. Also, if you have more than one Amex card, signing up for this program activates it for all of your Amex cards.

Are there countries that his is not accepted? If not I'll be getting another amex. I had the blue card but got rid of it as it offered me nothing.
