hehe, I see, I'm sure I'll see for myself when I get down there... Guess I was wondering how a boat manages to stay 100 feet (or whatever the "disobeyed" law says) from the divers flag and pass through the width of channel at the same time.

the channel itself is quite wide. but as Mike_Sissy mentioned, all boats disregard the flag. You will get a ticket for not having it, while the jetskier using someone else's for his slalum marker will just get a wave.

what's bad is that the local dive shop boats in reality even disregard it. yep they throw down a float with their flag on it, but they'll motor up withing under 100 or under 300 feet.

bah, at such "trolling" speeds, the prop most likely wouldn't kill you. stop being such a wuss

Anyone dive the other side of the pass yet? Ill be headed down their soon since I live in the area and its getting a little cooler down here.

please excuse her, she is just angry about...... everything

welcome to the area even if it is just to visit. the rest of us are much nicer in person. SeaYoda is the wise old sage of the local dive scene, and the jetties are his Dagobah (except on foggy mornings at Morrison Spring).

keep your eyes open in this forum. people are always organizing dives, and it is a great way to meet your future dive buddies if you want to try to catch up with someone who knows the area when you visit.

thanks a bunch! sounds good!

Now... I'm not trying to scare you off from diving there... it's still fun. Just got to be cautious is all.

Don't worry about that mike, I'm hooked and I'm not even certified yet (two weeks away). ..hey, and thanks for the great reply

If you're not cerfitied yet and taking your classes in the area, chances are one of your checkout dives might be at the jetties. Looks like you're from Atlanta, so that's not really likely. Most likely you'll do your checkout dives in a quarry or a panama city trip with maybe a stop at Vortex.

Since you're new, before diving the jetties on your own, I'd highly suggest hooking up with someone from a shop or just from scubaboard to dive there the first time. They'll be able to give you a briefing on what to expect and will give you the "guided tour" which will make for a better dive.

My first dive at the jetties was mid tide, at dusk, and I ended up taking a serious ride - LOL :D Next time was in the morning, at a high tide, without any problems at all :)

Just dive it your first time during a slack tide and you'll probably be OK :D

MDB and I did a snorkel reconosi...... we checked it out.

short story long, it sucked. the walk is deadlier than the other side, and when we got there, we found out where June Grass goes to die. It smelled horrible. There were even more fishermen, so diving the deeper sections were out of the question. so, all in all, it was decided it wasn't worth toting dive gear

We are stopping off at ginnie springs on our way down to Boyton beach. I have been to Ginnie before for snorkeling/freediving. I'm sure we will at least do some reef dives in Boyton and perhaps the top of a few wrecks down there too.

Once certified, I'm planning on sticking with the northeast Florida coast for a while. I'm defintely planning on doing the beach dives (destin and PC) with a buddy (yet to be determined) before ever thinking of going solo. It just gets me excited learning/talking about it while I wait around for that day to come.
