I just bought this used tank and I am trying to find out more about it.

The markings on the tank is as follows:

DOT3AA 2400-92/9003/ 048 M8303 FABER ITALY 02A92 +

I measured the circumference of the tank and it is about 25/26" so that makes an 8" diameter.

The height is between 24" and 25" measured at the very top of the tank with the valve off.

I sent a request to Faber using the email link on their site and I hope they will get back to me.

If I hear back from them I will post their reply.

I called Scubapro and was told to called back and ask for an "old timer" who might know what it is.

What do you guys think it is?

Thanks!

8" diameter with 24" height is a LP 95.

That's what the guy was saying that it might be but since it was not his tank, he was not 100% sure.

Is it worth the $70 I paid for it?

It's out of hydro ( only one non-factory hydro at 1996) and the inside looks factory fresh ( I took the valve off and dropped a light inside it and checked). The outside is painted white with very little chip/ding marks so I thought I would take a chance on it.

Yes it is worth it.
Get it hydro'd and enjoy years of use. Hopefullyno one will refuse to fill it for being 20 yo. It looks like the birth date was in 92

Thanks for confirming the value. I stopped by Sports Chalet and showed one guy at the scuba dept and he said that he will have no problem filling the tank after a hydro.

Now I just need to find a place that will fill it to 3300 :)

Make sure you get the plus rating when you get it hydroed. If the hydro place says no, find another one, there are lots of them in any city, and the knowledge level about scuba cylinders of the testers is a complete crapshoot.

The cylinder is probably old enough that it does not have the REE stamped on it. The hydro shop may not have it either. As such, the OP should make sure they have it from the info they get from Faber or Blue Steel which is the current importer.

That's a good point. When I spoke to the dive shop yesterday about hydro yesterday, the guy told me that the hydro place that does all his hydro has been in business for over 30 years so I am hoping that they would have seen this model tank over the years and will have the relevant data to test it for a + rating.

I will send Faber an email to request that info, thx Allen.

I didn't know anything about the REE stamp until last night when I read that mentioned on a few posts here ion Scubaboard.

Love this board!!!! :bounce4::bounce4:

The 3300 you mention puzzles me, this is a low presure tank 2400 psi and 2640 with a + added to the hydro. At 2400 you ahould have about 85 cu ft and 95 at 2640. So 2500 psi fill is not a short fill and a shop may not fill to 3300 when they see the 2400 psi stamped on that neck.

Not that puzzling, I was just making a remark in reference to what some place would called a 'Cave Fill' or 'Wrack Fill' and yes I have read all about overfilling from both camps (for and against).

Thanks
