We're leaving today. I went there twice. Never saw lionfish on the menu. Bummer.

Dang. The kitchen has mine for this evening. It’s not on the menu, we carry the fish. They do a great job preparing it.
Maybe next trip?

I brought my spears, but never took it on the boat. It wouldn't have mattered. I didn't see a single lionfish in any of my dives.

They've pretty well been hunted out of recreational depths in the park, and a recent announcement prohibits spears in the park for now.

That did stop the DM from bringing his spear on at least a few dives.

Last month I saw four lionfish total on about 10 or 11 dives. They were all smaller than the ones I've seen before, plus they were black with white fins. The one's I'd seen in the past were more of a brown color.

I was under the impression that, at least in the Marine Park in Cozumel, that you had to be authorized to spear lionfish and that guests were not allowed to spear them. Did someone tell you it was OK to bring your spear?

The dive op posted his spearing catch on fb. I asked if spearing was allowed in the park. He said, "yes". Now, that maybe only allowed for local DM's. One of the DM's I dove with said I should be bring my spear the next day.

Last May in a couple of weeks of diving we maybe saw a total of 5 or 6 lionfish and they were all very small. At the peak of their presence in the dive areas, we would see several big ones on every dive.

And I bet you didn't see much small fish when the big ones were around.
