Diving is an expensive hobby, but if the LDS goes away what do you think is going to happen to those Internet prices? No local competition, then the deals will disappear because the only source is the Internet. But that is just business.

I doubt if Scubatoys or Dive Sports look at LDSs as serious competition. When do you think the last time was that either one of them had to lower a price to do a price match with an LDS. Their competition is other internet retailers with Leisurepro probably at the top of the list. A reduction in the number of LDSs would likely be much more important to the surviving LDSs than to internet scuba retailers.

I don't understand this air fill argument. The main reason people will tell you to shop at an LDS is because of service. The number one thing they present to use is air fills, hell I can go to a local sporting goods store to get a fill for a few bucks. I'm sorry, but I can't justify spending hundreds sometimes thousands more for the same gear, so I can get air fills.

Three words: LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM

Sure, you could go to a sporting goods store and get fills from their "paintball" filler. BUT, you can not be sure that it is properly filtered and maintained for consumption, which is what you are doing when diving.

Remember, that is the fastest way to have your name wind up in the accidents section of this board. What's your life worth?

There are some hard nose people on this board about our LDS. I'll tell you, I don't want you in my local dive shop where I manage. There are some people that are better off not being our customers with the type of attitudes you have.
In our LDS we have retail prices, then we give our customers discounts . If you go and get a lower price off the internet for gear--if only you knew the whole story behind how they get them and the parts that are in them, you might think twice about shopping at your LDS-or a retail agency that have a certified tech to service your gear.

Now, about air--when you go to your local sporting good store---ask to see their lastest certificate showing their banks (air) passed inspection. You will be amazed some of these sporting good stores have no idea what you are talking about.

I want to thank all of my customers in North Florida that shop with us--People like you are welcome I am sure at any LDS and for sure ours. GO FSU!!!!!!;)

Yeah, like the divers that refuse to drink your Kool-Aid.

Oh pulleeze, there it is again. Ignorance and disinformation and baseless scare tactics. You guys lose more and more customers every time you try to pull this crap outside your protected store environment.

Scuba Toys, Dive Sports and Leisure all have store fronts and started out that way. They care about their local customers just as much as thier Internet business. I do not know of a successful Interntet scuba company that does not have a LDS (store front). Even Scuba.com has a store.

Attitude? if I was the owner, I'd have a new manager........

airfills...........If scuba is being filled at the sporting goods store, I'd say they are sampling their air....compressor's and bank tanks, O2, and gear are expensive, after laying that kind of capital out, I don't think you would scrimp on $400 a year for sampling your air.

Not always a scare tactic. Where do you think these pure Internet retailers get products from AquaLung, ScubaPro and Suunto (just a few examples). All three do not support Internet sales of thier products. Unless there is a LDS behind the eCommerce site, they are obtaining the products outside of the factory authorized sources. There are many companies that do not honor the product warranty unless it is purchased from an authorized LDS. Not always baseless.

Ah... but your not... are you?

I get free airfills for life at my scuba shop because I purchased my tanks at their shop. Going to my LDS is like going to your best friends house we talk and visit for hours. I have purchased some items on-line and they never held it against me; they also service the gear I bought on-line yearly.

It all depends on the LDS and how they build a rapport with their customers.
