Not always a scare tactic. Where do you think these pure Internet retailers get products from AquaLung, ScubaPro and Suunto (just a few examples). All three do not support Internet sales of thier products. Unless there is a LDS behind the eCommerce site, they are obtaining the products outside of the factory authorized sources. There are many companies that do not honor the product warranty unless it is purchased from an authorized LDS. Not always baseless.
:monkeydan

So show us the base.

Where do YOU think they get them? This has been covered in depth. The manufacturers may pay lip service to disallowing internet sales but do little to stop it. There are very few "pure internet retailers" and LP gets them in too large of quantities on a too consistent basis for it to be anything but direct. Not to mention that they somehow have the latest and greatest products right from their release date.

Whatever channel, no one has EVER offered any evidence that the regs are counterfeits manufactured by anyone other than the brand manufacturer. Raising doubts to the quality of manufacture or the parts inside them IS a scare tactic, always and completely baseless.

Besides, scuba life exists beyond Scubapro and Aqualung.

I purchased my regulator and bcd on-line and received a manufacturers warranty. I even called the manufacturer for information and had no problem at all. My regulator had an issue and I took it to my LDS and they fixed it under the warranty. So....? Maybe one should have more facts before making statements about "counterfeit" gear.:rofl3:

LDS should focus on excellent customer service not scare tactics to increase their business. I am loyal to my LDS because of the people that work there. People that fall for scare tactics are gullable.

I get free airfills for life at my scuba shop because I purchased my tanks at their shop. Going to my LDS is like going to your best friends house we talk and visit for hours. I have purchased some items on-line and they never held it against me; they also service the gear I bought on-line yearly.

It all depends on the LDS and how they build a rapport with their customers.

Being in Texas, I *really* want to know the name of this LDS.

Hey... can we indulge in the other great sport of PADI bashing for a bit??? This thread is getting old... a change of pace might freshen up the arguements.

There are some hard nose people on this board about our LDS. I'll tell you, I don't want you in my local dive shop where I manage. There are some people that are better off not being our customers with the type of attitudes you have.
In our LDS we have retail prices, then we give our customers discounts . If you go and get a lower price off the internet for gear--if only you knew the whole story behind how they get them and the parts that are in them, you might think twice about shopping at your LDS-or a retail agency that have a certified tech to service your gear.

Now, about air--when you go to your local sporting good store---ask to see their lastest certificate showing their banks (air) passed inspection. You will be amazed some of these sporting good stores have no idea what you are talking about.

I want to thank all of my customers in North Florida that shop with us--People like you are welcome I am sure at any LDS and for sure ours. GO FSU!!!!!!;)

Perhaps you should identify the shop that you manage.

That's why there are many different threads with different thread titles. Is somebody forcing you to keep clicking on this one? Yeah, I know, it's like watching a train wreck...;)

That would take guts and accountability, my bet is she's another hit-and-run poster.

I agree. I think I would be better off not being your customer. Please tell us which dive shop you manage.

.

I suspect LP has a very diverse acquisition network which includes everything the going-out-of-business LDS that decides to make a little profit on the way out, to foreign suppliers where laws prohibit what can occur in the USA, to direct supply from the US manufacturer. I'll bet they do not leave themselves vulnerable to the whims of any manufacturer who may terminate dealer agreements at will.
