As of 12 noon today (it's 1PM now so who knows what has changed in the past hour) that's only through the land border.

It showed an effective vaccine in 2004 just not a commercially available one. Vaccines are extremely expensive to bring to market and intensely regulated. It isn't likely to happen for something that presented an issue to so few people and retreated on it's own.

The point here is that they have several vaccines for cv19 ready for clinical testing, and the H1N1 timeline shows that the regulations and testing periods can be slashed dramatically if the need is pressing enough.

Uh huh. We will see. That is what the articles I listed said, but every one was superceded by another one that said they were almost to an effective vaccine. The last one that said that was about Covid-19, but mentioned no SARS vaccine yet.

A month ago I would have said and probably did say here that this virus was nothing to worry about. I've changed my tune as more information comes in from other countries (and our own) and now firmly believe that we are all headed to a "lock down" situation state by state if we don't take action NOW. I'm now working from home by order from my employer as I work in banking and the banks must continue to conduct business under all circumstances. The "Business Continuation" training that I had to endure for years and thought was a waste of time is now being implemented and I have to say, it is working almost perfectly. So, rest assured, your $ is safe, accessible, and all banks are sound because we trained, prepared for this and the industry now maintains capital requirements set after the great recession that banks can now weather anything, including this. My wife who is a Yoga Instructor is about out of work completely and her studios are trying to adapt and move to virtual live classes on line.

Anyway, we live in Virginia Beach where this virus is just now creeping in. I think we are right now all living the first 10 minutes of a 2 hour Hollywood Pandemic movie. We all need to change our behavior so we don't live the next 2 hours of that movie over the next year.

For those who live in the hurricane zones like we do, think of it this way... We are seeing the first rain bands of a Cat 5 pandemic hurricane approaching. We can change its course and experience a glancing blow but only if EVERYONE listens to the pandemic scientists and doctors and changes their behavior NOW. We are going to take a hit but if we change our behavior we can minimize that hit.

The more we shut down now and practice what we've been told the sooner we will return to normalcy. If we don't and this runs wild we are gonna have one heck of a mess on our hands. Doctors in Italy have sounded the warning as they are neck deep in this virus and we need to heed their warning.

I checked the Philippine Airline site. Manila to Vancouver one way is now more than I saw Cebu-Manila-Vancouver Winnipeg return about 6 weeks ago.

Only foreigners can fly on them and they will return more or less empty. If you leave no idea when you will be able to return.

I agree with all you say now (imagine that!) except for the bit about the doctors in Italy. It looks to me like they are at least eyeball deep.

In some Italian towns, not far from here, doctors and nurses are well under the surface now. They are dying of Coronavirus, one after the other.
Doctors in pension have been recalled in service, it just happened to one of my closer friends. I am severely concerned that he will survive, as he is a lung specialist (he is also a diving instructor and and expert of underwater medicine), so he will treat the worst cases. It is worst than what pessimists were thinking.
And not expect that staying at home, as we are now fully obliged to do, will help making this finish earlier. Actually the strategy is to slow down the spreading as much as possible, which means that this strategy is aimed to dilute the history of this pandemic along time, making it lasting as long as possible. It will take many, many months to pass, probably only after a vaccine is available in quantity, which means one year from now.
I know that people in US are still not seeing how bad is this virus, we are two weeks ahead on the curve and no one here has any doubt anymore.

The post to which you were responding was talking about the Mexican government with respect to the ferry between Coz and PDC. Perhaps you are still right and the government doesn't have that authority but I wouldn't assume that based on how it works in the US with airlines.

My heart is heavy with grief over what’s transpired in Italy! A wonderful country with great folks, amazing culture and food....my thoughts are with you, your family and friends....I wish I could do something beside shed tears.
