Hey, Windyairman / Pescador, nobody wants to get shot of this more than me, and about 30 divers waiting for air.

No luck with the oil filter Pescador, we cleaned it anyway, but it was clear.

I havent actually done the head change,but I have swopped valves and it didnt happen, still frothed and the other machine was fine.

I am begining to think its the oil pump, I have gone over every thing in the unit twice, I cant find any problem.

I dont know the model oil pump, that plates worn smooth, but its belt drive.Somebody mentioned timing but we havent changed anything here, unless the belt is slipping, how would I check timing?

Before I go and swop the pumps as this will mean the other machine will also be down for hours, is there some way I can run a quick test on the pump in-situ?

We turned it over by hand and some oil was injected out, but not too much, however it was at a slow speed (hand spin).
 
The oil pump could be from MICO, I vaguely seem to recall seeing it in my manual for Utilus-10. That one ressembled the first stage fuel pump on a single cylinder diesel engine widely used around here. As MICO is german manufacturer maybe Bauer simply designs/sources a proven pumping assembly.

Maybe Craig or somebody has a diagnostic. One might try some bush engineering like disconnecting the pipe, running the unit and check flow volume into a container but the results might be misleading or inconclusive unless you had the spec. The pump mfgr would have a spec for min output volume but.....it may require that the test be done at the regulator vent. I think you already opened the oil vent at the regulator, right? Just thinking out loud.

Edit: about the other question, I only know of one method: The #4 cyl has to be TDC. The only way that I know to do this is to remove the head and turn the wheel by hand. Press on the piston to make sure it is at TDC. Remove the pump cover and look at the position of the eccentric. The main lobe should be pointed down pressing on the pump plunger.

I don't know anything about the pump. It appears to be a plunger or rod pump which would include a piston, spring and check valve.

I will have a peek at the timing issue tomorrow if I get time, or Monday if not.

I can take the pump out and have it tested at an injector specialist I guess, theres bound to be one around here, diesel machines are the most popular here in the boonies, so quite a bit of business for them I imagine.

I am pretty sure its a standard injector, shouldnt be too difficult to rebuild if its a problem, or I can just order another from Bauer :depressed: the machines been down so long another few days wont matter I guess.

My theory that the pump is faulty Pescador is based on your post about air and oil, I am thinking that maybe the pump isnt able to maintain delivering sufficient oil to the fourth stage when it gets under pressure, so the air justs takes over, and although pressure remains up at 60bar, its mostly air pressure and then the little oil left froths and the clicking starts.

Dos this sound feasible Pescador, or am I just "barking up the wrong tree" the general concenus as I understand is the pumps dont usually break down, but I am ready to conceed anything now.

Okay, well its 10.30 pm, nothing on TV and, ..........maybe I need to check on my compressor, hey Pescador.:D :wink:
 
Theories come and go but I don't know what else to hang my hat on when proposing a particular action. It should be understandable based on a set of facts which are subject to analysis; otherwise, I have to assume that quantum physics is involved.:confused: We know that there should not be any air in that regulator and the process of elimination does point to the pump, as improbable as that might be. Maybe a pump check valve is bad or the spring is weak. Dad gum it, if that pump is working and primed it should drive out any air.
 
I am unable to swop pumps as the other machine has a differant oil outlet size, I suppose I could get an adaptor to make it work, but I just pulled it out and sent it to an injector specialist about two hours away for testing.

He was a bit sceptical initially, but said he would give it a shot, let me know tomorrow or wednesday, hopefully, maybe, if he dont decide to just not come to work or something.

.............but I am still wondering about them valves. I dont know, lets see what he comes up with.
Bauer here dont even have a pump to sell me if it is that, pretty much said they dont sell many so its a special import, but I am hoping the specialist can just rebuild the injector if its faulty.

:D - wish I did!!,........ last week we sent the oil pump away to be checked if it was functioning properly, it took a bit longer than expected, but we got it back friday with a clean bill of health, installed it - made sure the timing was right, switched on, no differance.!

Now I am stumped, - my head keeps telling me to re-visit the fourth stage valves, and piston and liner, but we have checked this so many times I cant think we missed anything.

I"ve been giving it the silent treatment since Saturday :D hoping to get a brain wave, but all I can think about is "theres back pressure (blow back) somewhere in the 4th stage but I am running out of ideas where."

The piston and liner are new,but,........ should I continue to entertain the notion there is a fault on it?? This looks to me like the only thing we cant and havent swopped out.
I cant swop it with the other unit as its a later model and has an O-Ring seal in the top of the liner (seals on the head), this one dosnt, metal to metal seal.

ANY ideas are welcome chaps.??
 
I'm still betting on the regulator. That spring could be bad. especially if you are still getting fluctuation.

Craig has a point about the spring. It's still hanging out there as a suspect. I don't know how given the improvement after the rebuild, just the process of elimination.
