I use a Teric with a Crest CR4 as a backup - this is the same as the Genesis Centauri or Deep6 Excursion prior to the (major) recent software upgrade. It was about $200 at the time I bought it but is now about $285. Runs Buhlmann without gradient factors so is a good backup. I was glad to have it when my Teric failed at the beginning of a dive trip.

What was the Teric failure?

I think there is a more important thing to think about. Know when to call a dive.
At what point are you so hellbent on making the next dive that you make poor choices leading up to the bad choice.

You miss a dive. So what? Kick back, have a drink, enjoy life anyway. Reset, try again the next day.

And how do I use those tables without knowing how deep my dive was? A depth gauge is needed as well, that might increase the total price to be very close to a cheap computer.
My Citizen Hyperaqualand Promaster has a maximum depth display in the dive watch. Been using US Navy Tables since 1966. Never had a battery fail on them. 🤪

Nice watch! However I don't think it falls into the cheap category. On amazon.ca I could get it or else 30 Casio dive watches for the same price.

Are you still using the 1966 Navy tables, or are you using the updated Navy tables?

I was not taught tables in my SDI OW class. They require computers from the very beginning. I laugh at the OW classes which pretend computers don’t exist, force people to learn tables, and then students never use tables again. Why not just teach the way they’ll dive from the beginning? The only table I use is the nitrox one to determine mod/PPO2 for recreational dives. Why do math if you don’t have to? (I hate math)
It is useful to learn how to use the dive tables even if you won't ever use them again. It teaches you the theory behind what your dive computer is doing for you.

OP, are you aware you can buy a perfectly good and barely used dive computer with all the appropriate information you need for recreational diving on ebay for about $175.

I know I have done it twice.

If anyone is on a dive boat I am on and they don't have their computer or it is not functioning I can lend them one and I still have the 2 I dive with, one on console, one on wrist.
Yes and no. I am aware you can buy dive computers one eBay but I would like to purchase two that are on the same algorithm, I can change the batteries easily if needed and most importantly I would like it to be reliable...

It makes more sense to use Multideco to teach what is happening than dive tables.
