Who cares what the effect is, its illegal. Don’t do it. Plain and simple.

Does anybody out there remember Prohibition?

I find it hilarious that everyone against pot has no reading comprehension skills.

I find it hilarious that some of those who are for pot have no comprehension skills.

What I said was simple. Show up to dive stoned, and you won't dive if I am present. Take illegal drugs in my presence, and you will be arrested. Surely, that is pretty simple to comprehend?

Smoking causes the lungs to attempt to compensate for the heat and dryness by producing extra fluids, and smoking can also cause permanent damage and scar tissue in the lungs. If the diver smokes enough on a regular basis, the lungs will keep producing these fluids continuously whether the diver has been smoking during the previous 12 hours prior to the dive or not. This can lead to serious problems like death from overexpansion barotrauma, etc. So even if the diver is not "mentally" affected at the time of the dive due to the length of time since the last time of smoking, smoke damage can be present in a serious way.

Second, marijuana use and then diving should fit into the same rule as using any substance that can affect decision making while underwater (alcohol, sedatives, various prescription medications). If we were talking about eating marijuana here and not smoking it, we would be talking about a completely different game. In that case, so long as the diver were not under the influence at the time of the dive, there is not a single thing that can be proven about the effects of marijuana use to make it a danger to persons who happen to participate in diving.

This much being said, the reality is that most people will have a lot more lung problems due to long term exposure to pollutants in the air than they will from smoking marijuana occasionally. Not that smoking anything, ever will make that get better but one should put all things into perspective.

It amazes me the way that people will spout the party line about things like this. Think for yourself occasionally; it does a brain a lot of good.

I usually do a couple of lines of herion, smoke a few bong hits, jump into my wetsuit and dive down to 5000ft with no problems........ sucks when I realize I forgot my reg in the car and my tank is upside down.

more misinformation. Please stop, you're now hurting your credibility.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough.....what I was trying to get across is that you need to know what it can do when under pressure. Some drugs react differently under pressure.

The discussion is legitimate. For one thing even though it's illegal in some areas a significant numbre of people still blow and secondly it's not illegal in all areas so if you travel much you'll eventually be confronted with it one way or the other.

...snip....

There are no 'flash-backs' or whatever...

hmmmm.....well, there's been a running discussion about this issue in some circles (including conflicting "scientific" reports) for decades and we won't be getting any definite answers here ..... My own experience is crystal clear but I can't, in all honesty, put my hand on my heart and tell you with 100% certainty that it was the pot. I'm going to make myself sound like a real dead-head for this but one of my roommates at university paid his rent by dealing and we did a not insignificant amount of LSD and mushrooms aside from all the other s.hit. I've never injected anything but that was about the only boundary I had when it came to experimenting..... At the time it seemed like a perk.

Anyway I haven't done any illegal drugs for years but I would be lying if I said that I'm 100% sure the flashbacks were from the pot so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
