What "far better functionality" did you have in mind?

TBH in the past, I wished my Perdix had a stopwatch available in Dive mode like my Teric does. The Tag/Bookmark feature is pretty cool as well.

The display is a big one, ease of function underwater. For me I find the peregrine/perdix far easier and more functional when actually diving

The biggest difference between the form factors in my view is there is more empty space on the rectangular models. I wouldn't call that a functional difference, but it's certainly a personal call whether that is more or less desirable.

OP is comparing rec watch-style computers, hence I suggest Tern (TX). FWIW that also happens to be my preference too.

Peregrine and Tern have basically the same functionality, so it comes down to preference - neither is “better”. FWIW the boxy-style Peregrine is much much larger and wastes a lot of space on the LCD display. The Tern is wearable during surface intervals and packs more info into the (much better, brighter, denser AMOLED) display - and is still easy to read clearly.

I see the point of the Peregrine if (and only if) you need the extra battery life, need fewer bigger buttons (gloves), or have truly terrible eyesight.

Teric / Perdix are of course a totally different category

For me, I find the display of the retangular Peregrine easier to read and more inutitive and less jumbled than the Tern. Saying that I am sure I could be very happy with the Tern. But I have a Peregrine and I like it better than the Tern. I also prefer the bungee mounting to the straps. My Peregrine is worn on my forearm rather than my wrist which means it is much closer to my eyes (prescription mask) for a quick glance without having to bring my arm up to my face, just glance over. Probably irrelevant to the OP but I wear a real watch with analog hands and use it every dive and every day of my life and I do not want to displace my old friend with something temporary like a dive computer.

Not saying this is how to do it, this is how I do it, Peregrine on the forearm, back up puck computer mid forearm and watch on my wrist. Bubble compass on right mid forearm now replaced by the compass in my Peregrine TX. If the OP does not wear a watch and does not see a need for or understand why a backup is often a wise choice then a lonely Tern on the wrist might be just dandy:



Almost always more than one way to skin a cat(fish). No, I do not have a transmittter and there are no plans to get one, I like my B&G spg just fine.

That’s fair, and FWIW I like the idea of bungee straps - more robust and purposeful. I also sometimes take a Seiko diver down with me, kinda for backup, kinda for fun

If you add the stop watch to the configurable center row you can use the stopwatch in dive mode. Same for average depth, it is also resettable.

Hello all. Im a new diver just finished diving to Sipadan. Its wonderful and want to keep diving.
But i want my first dive computer.
Budget is not many. im considering Suunto D5 or Garmin G1.
Any advise on these? Which one will be better.

(actually im in China, hard to find other brand, or i need buy from other country)

I have had very bad experience with Suunto customer service when the depth sensor on my Suunto computer started malfunctioning.

I will never buy another Suunto device and I do not recommend using Suunto.
