I recently bought a Nihon Aqualung KK SeaFrontier 7J as posted in the regulator forum:

Nihon USD Sea Frontier 71

I cannot work out how to remove the adjustment knob pin. It's a very small diameter piece of metal cylindrical in shape but serrated, there is no hex or screwdiver head to it.

It looks like this:

Any ideas would be appreciated, I've tried to push it out but it isn't budging. It actually looks like it's no supposed to come out but that would make servicing all but impossible, very odd. No idea why they didn't use a "normal" pin, it looks cowboy. It's too small to take a photo of but hopefully my bad drawing gives a clear enough idea. Looks like they found a piece of metal on the shop floor and just jammed it in. Cheers.

Depends what kind of regulator it is. For most, you have to screw the adjustment knob down first (clockwise) a few revolutions to take the tension of the spring. Then you should be able to push it out with a pin. Hope that helps.

Thanks, yeah I'm familiar with normal procedure but this is not a pin as such, just a jagged piece of cylindrical metal jammed in there. If all else fails ill buy a punch and use brute force to try to push it out although was hoping was a trick to removing such pins assuming someone has come accross them before. Cheers.

Hmmm. I see those in electric fan motor shafts. You can compress it with a pair of pliers then pull them out. But you wont be able to use it again. Maybe you can replace it with brass wire or a piece of brass soldering/brazing rod.

Cheers, I got it out with some force, I'll get a spring pin to replace it. As far as I can see only the inlet orifice and face plate are the same as a conshelf, all other parts are different. I'm going to see what's interchangeable. I hooked it up to a tank and with adjuster open it was like sucking milk shake through a straw, with adjuster closed it was like sucking cement through a straw, just terrible. I'm hoping some parts swapping and a decent tune will improve things. At this stage I'm not impressed with the SeaFrontier. Should have put it on a mag gauge before I disassembled it, oops.
