I did the same thing with the light and the SPG for a while after Fundamentals, but after REC Triox it became abundantly clear that the system works well only if every team member is on the same page. Even small changes can cause the system to break down under water.
I had an issue with cord as well. It never got caught on anything, but on video I saw that is hung low. I sent it back to Dive Rite and had them shorten the length two inches. As far as the SPG goes, do not check it when task loaded. Your SPG is you back up pressure gauge (your mind is the primary one). You should have a good idea of your pressure at all times. If all hell beaks loose under water, get everything under control then check you SPG. As for the light on the right hand; I’m sure you can perform an OOG scenario without shining your light in your team member’s eyes consistently in a controlled situation, but why even risk the chance that you might not be able to in a real life situation.

If what you do works for you and your team members have at it, but there are situations that might occur where theses change could be a hazard

JeffG:
Well...do what you want. Is this thread just a troll then?

lol

ok, i'm done with ya, Jeff... there goes the name calling

Mike Veitch:
I just love readin all this stuff about worrying about blinding your buddy when sharing air... hahahahah

Tooo funny!!!!
Its like everyone on SB only dives in caves and runs out of air all the time......
wahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa

No, but running out of air once would probably be enough to do it if your buddy didnt get the gas in your mouth.

Name calling? You must be the thinest skinned person in the world. Its was a question hence the ? mark.

You clearly want argue and defend your "choice" couple that with your thread about "I'm not doing DIR because of X,Y and Z"...Kinda troll like don't you think?

Anyways I'll go back to answer #1...Who cares.

H2Andy:
there are far more divers with the SPG clipped to the harness d-ring that with
it clipped to the hip d-ring. many of them have been diving since before there
was DIR. some of them taught JJ how to dive.

you are clearly not a DIR diver.

really, that's the only logical conclusion to reach out of this thread.

i find the arguments in favor of the hip d-ring plausible. you don't.

no worries.

the DIR police will not pull you over in a cave and give you a ticket.

I'm sure Matt Unique will be hoping that I will say that Andy will DIE A GROSS AND HORRIBLE DEATH if he dives this configuration. But Andy wont.

in_cavediver:
Not relevant to the question I asked though.
Lighten up, it was a joke...

H2Andy:
i'd like DIR diver's responses, which is why i put it here

Can us regular joe's chime in now that the we've reached 10+ pages?

I want to know how having the SPG hooked to the chest d helps the situation, what with inflator hoses and stages I mean its kind of full already it seems.

clearly if he was going DOWNTOWN he'd need a BODYBAG with that kind of STAR WARS CANTINA SETUP.

now that i've channeled GI3 does that mean the thread is over?
