The rotten egg smell is hydrogen sulfide, :death2:HIGHLY TOXIC:death2:. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_sulfide#Toxicity ) It will leach through your skin and get into your system even without breathing it directly. If you can smell or taste it on scuba, it's time to get out of the water!

What the heck is this place? A spring or an ocean dive:confused:

How is that stuff in the water? It sounds like a dump!....Take that site off the list!

Thanks frogman, We know about that nasty stuff, we have exprerienced it at hudson grotto.Thats an errie dive.

Hydrogen sulfide is a byproduct of decaying organic matter in the absence of oxygen. In this case water in a sink that doesn't get a lot of movement. Your body actually produces it in very small amounts (that's why farts stink!:eyebrow:), but in very, very low concentrations.

If the concentration is high enough to leach through rubber and you can smell it, it ain't a healthy concentration.:11:

Just wondering, since this stuff can kill you. Are there "no swimming" or "no diving" signs posted??

I don't. What happens in that spot is that the sewage overflows... well I'm sure you get the rest.

Ewwww!:11: Yet another reason to stay out of holes!:D

For some reason I thought this was a shore dive. Ah well.....and I was beginning to like the salt-free stuff. :sprint:
