Morning All

I changed my route this morning based on what northern_diver suggested. The first run this morning was going up hill - nearly killed me! According to my watch I ascended 217m.

Then for the second run I went back to a normal level and tried to get my speed up.

Alas I only have 30-40mins available each morning - without me getting up even earlier!

Morning ScubaMama - welcome aboard! A Marathon eh! - You go for it! That would be cool to do one of those, my aim is for a respectable 10km time, perhaps some time next year. I watched the NewYear Marathon on Television yesterday - I was in awe...the pace they all were going at - and PAULA RADCLIFFE! Incredible!

Off on Holiday/Business on Thursday to Thailand, so while I'm in London for a couple of days booked into a Hotel with Pool and Fitness center - got to make sure I don't slack and eat loads and sit and do nothing (like I did last time I went away!!!!) and I might even try and find a running route while I'm in Phuket!

Ya'll are doing so good. I am glad to see this thread still going strong! It has been an inspiration AND a thorn in my side! LOL
I am finally mentally ready to get back into so training, and am looking at a 5K next year. I am a long ways away, however, the goal is to do it!
Good stuff here on training, thanks ND for the info!

Hi there,

Thanks for letting me in your group. You all are a great inspiration!

Here is my update for the weekend:

Friday: Rest
Saturday: Ran 18 miles and walked 2 miles. (20 miles total). I didn't realize that the hills were going to kick my butt. The hard part was that I ran out 10 miles and had to get home (the last 10 miles) and the hills grew on the way back home. It was a bit warm and I was not prepared. I only took 2 bottles of water and needed at least 6. Stopped at a real estate office and filled up my bottles. I ended up drinking 4 bottles but feeling dehydrated.

This was the first time that I ran 20 miles in almost 3 years and I noticed that it wasn't as much fun as running flat areas.

Sunday: I rested!!!

Need to work on my strength and abs this week. Maybe some yoga. Definitely need some flexibility.

Hill training is tough. As you get used to the climbing, increase your reps (sets) and (time) Are your legs and lungs sore?..........

Training for a full marathon takes at BEST about a year of intense training. Maybe start working on a 5k or 10 k and imporve from there. You really shouldnt run that far without bringing your body up to that level without some condtioning. You are opening yourself up to a whole host of injuries. Search the next on "how to train for a marathon" and they will have a wide range of training based off of where you are standing with your present conditioning. Even once you feel that you are condtitioned to run 26.2 miles, you really shouldnt run these kind of miles on a regular basis. The elites are running these quit often (about once a month) but these guys/gals are doing this type of training for a living with lots of professional support. Most if not all runners measure there level of training by "miles run per week". The elites are running 70-100 miles per week. I am running around 30-40 miles per week. If you watched the ING race this past weekend, Radcliff breathing DIDNT pick up that much, until she started to pull away from Wami. I was in awed by her muscles in her legs, her kick and her breathing. Now that is conditioning.

There are several items available that you can wear that holds water bottles and gel packs. Some are vest style, some are belt styles. I dont like neither, so I "stach" my water bottles (I live out in the country) every 6-10 miles. It doesnt take that long to retreive them. I also run in a "loop" run" twice over so that my family can keep an eye on me. I pass my house up at least twice on my longer runs so that my kids and wife keeps an eye on me. I also just started doing some trail run and my my takes the mountain bike out with me.

cheers :happywave

Where did that week go?! I've not been good about checking in here, hope you all haven't missed me too much ;)

I'm still walking 30-60 minutes with the doggie most days and doing 2-4 shorter (10-15) minutes walks throughout my day. Not staggering by a long shot, but I'm still moving and still heading the right direction.

Good to see you all out and about and love the photos!!

Alcina.... i hear you have been very very busy as Mary (Mrs Gudge) keeps handing out your business card and you keep getting bookings!! well done

but good on you for still walking!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Mary is awesome!

I haven't been doing that much shooting, not enough, but as I'm trying to get ready for my trip to the US next week that's not so bad. I'd rather be shooting, though - the office work just isn't keeping my interest!

another day.... starting was a bit of a struggle as i was feeling very stiff and i thougth i would make it only twice up BB hill but did 3 treks and got the pics from each summit to prove it :D

has anyone seen Roy lately????????????

lets keep going guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
