10 MPH isnt bad. I am riding on slight hills. Some winds (5-15 MPH winds). 80 percent of effort on a bike is from drag and resistance. 10 MPH on steep hills in high winds (25-30 MPH) is a pretty good speed.

Hehe, I am riding on bike trails (rail trails, mostly) and there are some slight inclines. No steep hills or high winds. I just need to get out there and ride more so I can improve my performance. Sometimes I get my heart rate up just trying to avoid oblivious pedestrians who pay no attention to staying on the right side of the trail and have no idea what to do when I call out "passing on your left" as I approach. :D

My wife is a full time paramedic and she thinks I am going to get hurt running and biking on the rodes.

I'm scared to death to ride on the roads! I just think drivers don't pay enough attention.

erparamedic:
Wow! Heart rates in the 40s and 50s! That is a true sign of your fitness!

Since my knees are bad, I don't run. (Doc would kill me if I did!) I do walk, and have gotten up to 2.25 miles in 35-40 minutes, which isn't too bad of a walking speed... not to mention, it's all that my knees can handle.

Swimming.... look out! I could swim forever, and ever, and ever and keep a decent pace. LOL I may not have good form, but, by golly, the endurance/stamina is there! :D As far as treading water... could do that forever too. ;)

I would love to be able to bike, but I don't even own one. I kinda figure, why put the money into it when I have no place to "safely" bike around here. I'm surrounded by busy roads and interstates. The ONE place that I have considered riding, I decided not to, cause I just don't trust the traffic. I'm also a Paramedic (obviously... the screen-name ;)) and visions of previous bicyclist patients run thru my head... and I think... "Oh, no! They weren't supposed to bend/twist right there!" Or, "Oh, is that their shoes laying 100 feet away?" Or, worst case... "I really hope they didn't feel that!" Or, "They didn't feel a thing." I just can't bring myself to ride a bike around here. That said.... I truly respect those that do ride, and give them ample room when I drive up on one. ;)

This is the reason she doesnt like me riding or running on the rodes. She responded too many times to EMS runs involving these types of accidents. I do admire the medics for what they see and do everyday and then of all the CEU's, and protocals that they have to keep up with. Every once in a while I get to attend CEU's with her and it is interesting. I had attended a GERTEE in Gilboa, Ohio a month ago and learned at lot. I got to do water rescues, high angle rescues (right up my alley), I even got to intubate a "dummy". YUK.......

Sounds like you have fun at the events you participate in with her. So, you didn't care for intubating the dummy, huh... LOL I bet it did give you an insight to the strength, lift and angle required in your non-dominate hand to do it successfully though. ;) In most cases (and trust me, there's definitely exceptions), I find it easier to intubate a real person. The dummies can be pretty stiff... hahahaaa... tubing a stiff... now that sounds funny! :rofl3:

Hmmm... now, to tie this post into the thread so it's not a total hijack.... Ummm....

You know... sometimes those in-services can be quite the workout! I'll bet I've burned countless calories during the "physical" ones. :D

well no response from the e-machine people so tomorrow i might price out a new one... with at least 12months warranty!

I swear this wasn't here before... I looked... it took some prompting from Almity wife to find it! I still like the Roy N title, though!

I am sore from loading/unloading cars and also from various minor truck repairs I've had to do. Therefore, I submit that, though I wasn't officially exercising, I've done my exercises!

Well, did another crazy workout of cardio bicycle at 65 minutes and lost 1000 something calories. Did weight training at the legs, I wanna have good looking legs. ;) And did some buoyancy practices in the pool and tried out my new citizen watch computer also. :) Also Trucker Girl, tobad you weren't in the area because Carmel yesterday, it was just beautiful, I just couldn't believe it and it was probably the best dive out of my 100th dive I ever did. :D

Today: 20/07/07 - Unable to do any excerise this morning. :-(

Hurrah! I'm diving this evening after my normal job! yay!

Funny you should mention the kids table...

There have been a couple of times, where I've been out to eat with friends and although I really fancy some chicken and chips, I really couldn't face the half chicken and mountain of chips they normally serve you, I've asked, but no one will serve me the 'Under 7s' menu! I say I'm only 5'7" :eyebrow: but still no... I now intensely look at the starters for something for the main course...

I'm one of those people that if I order something I *will* eat all of it, as I know it will just be chucked in the bin, back in the kitchen, annoys me that I've paid for something and its been thrown away lol...

Have a lovely birthday meal!
