Wow! I am so envious of your bike-riding skills. When I ride my bike, it takes me about an hour to go 10 miles. The amount of activity you pack into your week is a huge inspiration!

I must admit, I've severely slacked off on the workouts. EEK! However... I'm still holding steady, weight wise.

Since we're talking about RHRs... I've had significant improvement!!! Over the last several years... mine had been in the mid 90s routinely. Over the last 7 months, I've dropped my RHR to 70-72/min.

10 MPH isnt bad. I am riding on slight hills. Some winds (5-15 MPH winds). 80 percent of effort on a bike is from drag and resistance. 10 MPH on steep hills in high winds (25-30 MPH) is a pretty good speed.

Most of it is just riding the bike and making goals on MPH, distance and tuning in your THR. Your body does the rest on adjusting.I have a trek 1200 and a schwinn 700 that I ride. The schwinn on rainy days and during the winter and the more expensive trek on clear days and summer (dry) days. I love riding. I met a school teacher last month on the AT trail that was backpacking. He had just completed a ride from NJ to Oregon on a Cannondale 700 with bags on the front forks and rear pannierss (58 pound gear) and he was 62 y/o. Now that is skill and determination.

There is a bike trail most of the way to work, but I am unable to maintain my road speed on the bike trail. So I take the road instead.

My wife is a full time paramedic and she thinks I am going to get hurt running and biking on the rodes. She also jost me on that I am going to use up my 1 billion heart beats early and die of a worn out heart. I did have a friend 2 years ago that passed away while she was running. Heart attack. She actually ran full marathons and did a few ironmans. She was in excellent condition. So we thought. Health and fitness is all in moderation. However, I just dont feel good (depressed) if I dont run/bike.

Yeah, 52 not too bad. But my 17 y/o still kicks my arse in the 5 mile runs, push ups, pull ups and swims. I do however beat him on the bike (wind sprints and distances). My wife out swims me so bad that she laps me on a two mile swim. I sink like a rock. I HATE swimming for distance.

How far in 46 minutes? Do you keep track of your target heart rate on the 46 minute run?.

Got a map out and ones of those measuring pens, I reckon I did 8kms this morning..

Whats that 8km in 46mins = 10.2km/hr - not bad at all I reckon!

As to RHR - I'm hovering around 42-44 at the moment in the mornings, when I'm running at a pace which I can keep up, my HR is dead on 162BPM

Swimming is also weak for me.. my wife, who I would say isn't as althletic as me, nails me everytime...

Wow! Heart rates in the 40s and 50s! That is a true sign of your fitness!

Since my knees are bad, I don't run. (Doc would kill me if I did!) I do walk, and have gotten up to 2.25 miles in 35-40 minutes, which isn't too bad of a walking speed... not to mention, it's all that my knees can handle.

Swimming.... look out! I could swim forever, and ever, and ever and keep a decent pace. LOL I may not have good form, but, by golly, the endurance/stamina is there! :D As far as treading water... could do that forever too. ;)

I would love to be able to bike, but I don't even own one. I kinda figure, why put the money into it when I have no place to "safely" bike around here. I'm surrounded by busy roads and interstates. The ONE place that I have considered riding, I decided not to, cause I just don't trust the traffic. I'm also a Paramedic (obviously... the screen-name ;)) and visions of previous bicyclist patients run thru my head... and I think... "Oh, no! They weren't supposed to bend/twist right there!" Or, "Oh, is that their shoes laying 100 feet away?" Or, worst case... "I really hope they didn't feel that!" Or, "They didn't feel a thing." I just can't bring myself to ride a bike around here. That said.... I truly respect those that do ride, and give them ample room when I drive up on one. ;)
