South Brohard beach is a better choice. It has a large parking area, restrooms & showers and easier beach access for us yak divers

I suggest we commit to Alhambra this year as plans are already quite far along, and while we are feasting on Turkey that Saturday, we can talk about moving it someplace else next year.

Ditto on sticking to the planned event. Future plans can be discussed as we chow down.

Also... I am looking forward to chatting with some of the yakkers. I am interested in getting one myself.

The event is almost two months away, just started being planned, and it's too late to move it 1/2 mile? Nobody remembers the parking last year? Or the long walk to the bathrooms? Moteman, I agree on the north end of Sharky's being better.

In my opinion, almost any other beach in Venice is better than Alhambra. About all it has to offer is an abundance of little teeth, but I've found more quality fossils at the other sites. Service club, Sharkey's or South Brohard would be better. Sharkey's and S. Brohard are more yak diver friendly. Do as y'all like, I'm not a planner or organizer.

The address for S. Brohard is 2782 Harbor Drive South if ya want to google it.

Note, event destination has been changed slightly. Please see first post in thread for up-to-date information.

(b) Exemptions . The following activities are exempt from the prohibitions contained herein:

(1) Sculpting of sand (such as sand castles) on public beaches, or the collection of shells, sharks' teeth, and other natural materials that wash up on public beaches except as otherwise prohibited by federal, state, or local laws.

Jenny, I'm not sure what part of the rules you're objecting to, but I think you'll find that those are also Venice city ordinances for all Venice public beaches including Alhambra.

Exactly.

Further, just to be clear, I have just spoken to Pam Johnson of Venice Parks. no rum bottles - sorry. However, like Alahambra, shark tooth collecting is fine. As she said, it is one of the reasons Venice is so famous. :)

Missdirected:
This year the event will take place at South Brohard Beach [/COLOR] Brohard Park The physical address for the South Brohard beach parking area is 2782 Harbor Drive South.

Where is that exactly? I hear discussion of it being north of Sharky's, but when I map quest the address it comes out quite a ways south of Sharky's.
