Looks like villablanca area will get commercialized more with the approval of the 4th cruise ship pier and also the Manataraya Project which is an extension of the stingray jail next to Blue Angel. The Mantaya development will be almost all the waterfront from BA to Villablanca hotel. This will impact diving and snorkelling on the villablanca area.

More fence surface area, more opportunities to cut holes. Wire cutters are cheaper than a taxi ride at Chedraui
You are joking, I hope. No matter how much we gringos may disagree with what is being done on, around, or to Cozumel, it is not within our rights to take direct action against anyone or any place of business there.

Not sure if they are going to have more jail cells in the mantaray project but they are going to develop the area with all kinds of stuff going out into the water. The locals who swim there everyday will no longer have access to the area.

FWIW, I don't remember seeing many people swimming there when I am staying at Blue Angel. It's sharp ironshore with little or no easy access to the water between the businesses next to BA and those across the street from Hotel Villablanca. I don't remember if there are any stairs to get down from the seawall, either.

But that isn't to say that I welcome more development there.

I see people swimming there everymorning especially the competitive athletes. They start from around hotel villablanca swim north to stingray pens and return south. On Sundays lots of locals go there in the water. There is stair access to the beach all along their. The new pier will be built next to sunset bar area.

Was it you that predicted, last year, they would start construction about 6 months after AMLO left office?
I believe this was approved in the offices of Mexico City years ago. No amount of local input or opposition was ever going to stop it, too much $$ involved. The previously published drawings show a dog leg design, angling out from sunset beach to near the wall and then heading north along the reef to just below stingray prison. I believe the shallow slope from the beach will not allow sufficient depth for the deep draft ships, for a straight out design so this way it will destroy the entire Villablanca reef.
Add to this the probable cruise ship port going in across the channel at the Vulcan Material port that was appropriated by AMLO and friends

Yes I did say that when I initially heard about it. The whole development issue has been tied up in court with the judges, and low and behold....palms got greased and now its time to build. The design looks like it will cover a lot of the villablanca wall area. Will be interesting to see what the cruise industry brings here after July 1 when the $50 tourist tax plus $5 pier tax applies to all passengers entering Mexico. I think there will be lots of passengers avoiding the mexican itinerary cruises.

Be that as it may, I am sure glad I live in the US where this kind of thing (greasing palms to get unpopular projects approved) never happens. 😶

Factoring in the total cost of a vacation, this is a minor amount, and won't deter most.
