I'm trying to understand whether two weeks to get reg parts for a Mares Abyss is typical. Just parts for a normal service, nothing broken.

This is a Mares Abyss bought in 04.

Is 2 weeks a typical lead time for getting reg parts from Mares? Shorter or longer?

Shasta Man,

I just stumbled upon this and I thought I would explain a couple of things.

Local dive stores that are invested in Mares generally would have service kits for the Abyss on hand. If not it could be that it took them a few days to actually get around and order them. Depending upon what time of day they called it could take a full 24hrs to process. Our corporate office and warehouse are both on the east coast. I also have witnessed UPS and Fed Ex are taking longer to get the product from E. to W. On average a ground shipment is taking upwards of 7 - 10 days especially when holidays are present. So 2 weeks is very reasonable considering all of the variables.

I hope this helps explain and instill confidence that you made a good purchase.

Thanks,

zak

When I was looking to buy my own gear, I was contemplating Mares. I was told by my LDS (that carried Mares) that delays in services, etc. are pretty standard because of parts. Because Mares is an Italian company (if my memory serves me correctly), sometimes parts can be harder to come by state-side. In Europe, however, it is easier. That's what I was told.

That being said, I had my reg serviced back in October (ScubaPro) and it still took just under 2 weeks to have it done.

Years ago this was more accurate. Not because they came from Italy, but more so poor forecasting etc.. Today this simply is not accurate. We are fully loaded with service kits and parts. We pretty much have a 24hr turn around on most orders, again depends on where and when it's ordered.

Best,

As long as we're on the subject, can anyone recommend a shop that does good service on Mares regs in the SF bay area? I've been borrowing my friend's set, and would like to have it serviced before I return it to him.

Where is better for you? Bamboo Reef downtown SF is very good, as is Captain Aqua's in Hayward. If you give me a range I'll give you the short list.

Thanks Zak,

Thanks for clearing that up. I appreciate knowing that.

That's kind of you.
