... Unfortunately most manufactures charge a fortune for "semi" dry suits..
You need to check out the offerings by Scuba Max. We've been using their wetsuits for commercial seafood harvesting. The poor things are going into their 4th season & are still hanging tough.

I definately don't dive wet in cold water, but a good wetsuit is definately more confortable in warm water and is much easier to don and dive in...

So where is the warm water near Long Island? ;)

Besides, most people think drysuits are way more expensive than they are. Many people will spend $600 on a drysuit instead of spending $250 on a nice 2 piece 7mm suit which they're not going to wear in warm water either.

I am also on long island. As scotty had said, I also wear a hyperstretch henderson (5mm)one piece. early in the season I wear a 7mm core warmer over it. It is very warm. I orig. did my checkout dives in approx. 52 degree water and felt nothing. As much as I would like to dive dry, I can't afford it. THis setup works great for me and I hate the cold.

I had this plan to airlift LI and drop it somewhere just south of Key West :eyebrow:

shallow water in august isn't bad ;)

I definately need the wetsuit.. I travel alot and am not dragging my drysuit (dui cf-300) to use in 80+ water... even a crappy 3m works well for me for dives up to about 4-4.5 hours long..

Warm water near Long Island is just that very near. Beach dives Aug to end of Sept will register low 70's.

What people forget w/dry suit is that $500 or $600 for a suit doesn't include underware which can run more than $100 (closer to $300)
Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong w/dry suit, I wouldn't go any other way. Except when I dive south of the Mason Dixon line. There I use a 3mm.

I do have 7mm farmer john that is only about 7 yrs old and looks like new (because it sits in the basement).

Most people, especially New Yorkers, have plenty of fleece they can pile on under a drysuit.

You don't need to spend $$$ on the one that says DUI or Weezle.

LOL- I've got plenty of fleece, and got guite a bit of use out of it this winter (hence the airlift plan).

For diving Long Island, it's probably best to eventually own both a wet and a dry suit. If I had to pick one to start, it would be a wetsuit though.

I make too many, spur of the moment, fun type dives that don't need a drysuit. In late June through early October, even the deeper offshore stuff is nice and comfy in my 7mil.
