their will be several rescue divers on the group but if you are relying on a "safety" for yourself then this would be your buddy or team. everyone watches everyones back as simple as that:)

clgsamson:
I take it a safety diver is not discussed in DIR bro? no pun intended pards.

yung safety diver for dir is the "team" or buddy approach. it doesnt really matter what term you use for me its, the buddy system. imo the most effective uw team

clgsamson:
the "team" you refer to is a "DIR team, not the buddy team that you'll have on Saturday.

dir team is exactly same as buddy system but in the dir sense if can be 2,3,4 divers. its going to be the buddy system on sat meaning me +1.

in the dir sense the 2,3,4 divers you mentioned to be reliable has to have the same training or better than you to be reliable.

you-SPOON are the only one who has more training on self reliance than any of your companions in this particular dive plan.

The best safety diver is your own self. not your buddy. your buddy serves as redundant source of safety. IT is the diver that is responsible for his/her own safety.

for the sake of your companions who rely on you for your dive plans, Start your DM course soonest.

You-SPOON may be aware of the risks involved and , YOU (SPOOON) have given this planned dive thought and preparation (MENTAL, PHYSICAL, physiological) YOU (SPOON) are ready to take on your planned dives, VERY WELL DONE SPOON !!!

HOWEVER YOUR COMPANIONS HAVE NOT CONTEMPLATED THEIR OWN PREPARATION PHYSICAL, PHYSIOLOGICAL and mental. they are unsafe to themselves and may pose to spoil your plan.

To be responsible for a dive plan
, if anyone aborts, the prime mover of the dive plan has to abort the entire plan and escort the diver aborting - if the dive leader is at all concerned with the safety of the entire group and its individual members then then the safety of the whole group would be considered. But i hope this does not happen.... but **** happens UNEXPECTEDLY..... define "accident" ?

Rescue divers are trained to respond to dive emergencies.

A DM is trained TO PREVENT SUCH EVENTUALITIES.

May you less prepared divers with SPOON think for yourselves and be responsible for your OWN SAFETY . in an event of an accident you are not covered by SPOONs DAN insurance. just a thought.

Discuss and plan the dive with spoon <--- very much different from tagging along.

i agree well said pao. for the record i do not intend to take the dm course anytime soon. rescue is the last course for me in the recreational field.
