    Repair Force Fins?

You have the excellarating force fin, it appears narrow near the toes and spreads out. Maybe the cracks developed because of over tightening the screws. The screws should be used with loctite material so you dont have to over tighten it. You can ask for loctite "glue" from the DIY shop.

    Derawan/Sangalaki in Nov/Dec?

All when diving in around Derawan it is OK to get poor visibility. It is about the hunt for macro life, infact some of the sites beyond Derawan (not Sangalaki, not Maratua) are also great muck diving sites. You are looking for the small, tiny and super tiny stuff. For example, nudibranch...

Jakarta and surrounding areas safe for Westerners?

I travel around Indonesia quite frequently; last trip was two weeks ago. Prior to that 6 weeks ago. In my opinion it is safe for me. I definately do not look like a local. For Jakarta, 1000 islands are nearby, not great but there is some diving. Assuming you need some comfort and...

    Lembongan Diving - Dive Operator

Their web site seems running http://www.world-diving.com/ For sure Bali Hai is around, they have even expanded their operations into Seraya area of Bali.

    Mataking and Lankayan

I have been to Mataking and the resort is really nice. The house reef is very good for macro but it has very strong currents on a full moon. But then again, you can always dive it when the tide changes ("slack period"), since it is the house reef it is easy to dive during that period...

    Suggestions for Brunei/Labuan?

There is diving in Labuan, Brunei and Miri. Labuan used to be run by Borneo divers, but they shutdown the "Tourist" diving and kept the commercial diving going. Having said that I recently heard that a new operator started in Labuan. Brunei diving is popular among the Shell Staff and...

    Derawan/Sangalaki in Nov/Dec?

They still use the coupon system and it is the cheapest way to dive with them. I agree the short flight between Balikapapan and Berau is quite expensive. You can try and see if it is cheaper with a local travel agent. I have not tried that myself. I normally pass everything to Pak Seno...

    Diving in Derawan

Losmen Danakan is in Derawan, located maybe 100m from Derawan Dive Resort property. In Berau there is a big water front / river wall area, you will see the water taxis waiting for their customers. These boats are really meant for river use. Hence they do not have a deep V hull. In the...

    Diving in Derawan

To save on cost stay at Losmen Danakan. To fly to Berau you can get your tickets from any local travel agent in Balikpapan. I am not sure where you are starting from, but you could buy all the sector tickets from where ever you begin. Ideally buy the tickets in Indonesia. Much cheaper...

    Derawan/Sangalaki in Nov/Dec?

I have been to all 3 resorts during the mentioned period. The mantas are still there. Nabucco is more luxurious. Derawan is more basic. Both have better facilities and management than Sangalaki. Derawan has a great house reef and easily accessible, but the currents can get quite...

    Diving Bunaken

The sites around Gangga are quite different from Lembeh and Bunaken. The marine life is less touched, since so few dive that area.

    Menjangan dive shops/ resort recommendations

Mimpi is great, but it is also quite costly. Pemutaran area also has great resorts beach side with a white sand beach. Most of Bali is black. Reef Seen at Pemutaran is good. I did not try Werner Lau. Pemutaran has a strange biorock house reef. It is quite rich for macro. It all...

    Sangalaki, Kakaban, Samama, Maratua

If you dive sangalaki - nabucco - derawan... and the weather really turns BAD, they typically will not go out to sea. Hence NO diving. Then the best bet is to dive the house reef at derawan. So pick the resort not just in terms of what you want to see, but also when you plan to be there...

    Sangalaki, Kakaban, Samama, Maratua

Bali is great, and much cheaper for family. Great value for money with many sites and things to see and do even of you do not dive. To save on time, stay at the site you intend to dive instead of those long car rides or boat rides. Get more diving done, and more sleep.

    Sangalaki, Kakaban, Samama, Maratua

One good thing about diving out of Derawan is that you really can DIVE DIVE DIVE and DIVE some more until your hearts content. This is because the jetty - house reef dive is really very good for macro life. It also has 3 resident big turtles, schools of jack fish, milk fish, snappers...

    Sangalaki, Kakaban, Samama, Maratua

Maratua - Nabucco has the best lodging and food. Derawan - Has the second best lodging and food, also has cheaper losmen (Danakan). Sangalaki - Worse lodging and food. Sangalaki best overall dive sites Samama great macro and close to Sangalaki, not sure if they still will take you there...

Going to Bali in 2 weeks

Bali is huge with a lot to offer. Underated and under appreciated dive destination. Tulamben is a good choice for max dives since most are shore dives. But do not go when the big waves roll in! Getting a pounding on the rocky beach is no fun when lugging camera gear. Because Bali is...

Advice on dive trip to Indonesia/Kalimantan

So I guess you know Ton and Marjan from Lumba Lumba at Gapang. I have not been back since the tsunami. Another place slightly similar is Pulau Poncan off Sumatra, the jump off point is Sibolga. The lodging is cheap, the diving is cheap, BUT the boat cost me a big $$$$$...

Advice on dive trip to Indonesia/Kalimantan

Bali is and under rated dive destination. If you only think of Kuta, Nusa Dua... all the toursit spots, then I can understand your opinion. The good diving is not in those areas. They are in Tulamben, Menjangan, Pemutaran, Nusa Lembongan... all these small villages outside the toursit...

Advice on dive trip to Indonesia/Kalimantan

Gangga is costly not sure if the price includes diving. BlueWave is on Bangka, you have to contact Symon of Thalassa; maybe she can help you out. BlueWave is run by someone else but is sitting on Symon property. There is also Pulisan Jungle Beach Resort...
