Big Corn Island, Nicuragua - Any info appreciated

Thank you so much for the info. Indeed I am aware of the primitive nature of Corn and I welcome it. Seemed pretty easy to decide on Little Corn over Big from your comments and what little else I found. Little Corn B and B was full. Am now looking at Hotel Las Delfine and Carlito's (at the...

Big Corn Island, Nicuragua - Any info appreciated

I will be going to Big Corn Island off the east coast of Nicuragua in about a month with my non-diving gf. Any recommendations for lodging would be much appreciated (also lodging on Little Corn if you know someplace great). Any other info about the islands from anyone who's been there would...

Shore dive on the Big Island - cheap.

No BCD - Kona Shore Diving

I thought it might be a lot less of a deviation than it turns out. Thanks to all. It is clearly beyond my capabilities. I waited until my golden years to begin scuba but have been snorkeling for years. It just seemed like it would be "nice" especially shore diving.

3 days of diving in Dec Big Island - what to do?

This is not an endorsement of Big Island Divers but it does have a lot of information. I'm on my way to Kona myself and I sent an e-mail to several lds asking what weight wetsuits they recommend/rent. They all replied and they all replied the same: 3mm. If you're into it, check out some shore...

No BCD - Kona Shore Diving

I am a very new diver. I am going to Kona for "a while" and expect to do much shore diving. I can be very happy at 15-20 feet forever (sometimes). Is it practical (possible) to do shallow scuba without lead or a bcd (utilizing the weight of the full tank)? I don't know if this even makes...

I'm Going To Chile, but where?

I've decided the Juan Fernandez Islands look amazing and this is my once in a lifetime chance. I have contacted aerocardal airlines and not heard back and the one operator I've been able to locate, ENDEMICA EXPEDICIONES seems to have been put out of business by the 2010 tsunami. The most recent...

Shore diving vs boat diving on the Big Island

I am an new 8 dive OW novice and will be spending December in Kona visiting friends. :yeahbaby: So far I love diving, but have never done a shore dive. I already know that (if possible) shore diving is about 1000% (=100%, I know) more my style than boats. Of course, at my level I need...

Looking for a tough digital dive watch

Casio ARW-320 My total fav is the Casio ARW-320 analog - digital with depth meter - altimeter - barometer - altitude and depth alarms and all the usual timer, stop watch and alarm functions. I believe they stopped making them around 1989.

Hawaii shore diving? It's a "sure" thing!

I will be in Kona for Dec. I have been there before, but this is the first time as a diver (and novice at that). I plan to dive a lot, including and hopefully a lot of shore diving. Can you recommend any Kona dive ops?

AWESOME Manta Night Dive in Kona

I thought it was pretty awesome. I'll be in Kona in Dec. Who was your dive op? Can you recommend any ops over others? Maybe if you called them sharks you would have had fifty people correcting you by now.

I'm Going To Chile, but where?

Last night I went to see Amy Tan reading from her new novel, The Valley of Amazement, at a Barnes & Nobel in New York. Before I went into the book store I won a round trip ticket to Santiago, Chile from New York and a round trip from Santiago to anywhere in Chile except Easter Island, because I...

DCS and no DAN - WHAT NEXT?

Great response. Thanks. What did you mean by that? I did think DAN was DAN. Are you including the premium policy or talking about something else?

DCS and no DAN - WHAT NEXT?

That is an astounding article (and current!). Who know that chambers were part of the big medicine money mill in the US of A and literally have no time for divers (Abdullah knew). Thanks for sharing. And thanks to everyone else! OCCUPY HBOT :angrymob: BTW I am a member of DAN and this (at...

DCS and no DAN - WHAT NEXT?

For my hypothetical I am somewhere that requires an expensive med evac. I am unconscious and the dive op knows I am not a DAN member. What does he do? Rather than start a second thread: Are there cases of post dive death due to denial of treatment for financial reasons?

DCS and no DAN - WHAT NEXT?

I am a new diver and I am a member of DAN. I started thinking, what happens to a diver that is not a member of DAN and uninsured that shows signs of DCS after a dive. What can be expected of the DM or LDS? Do you sign a dozen forms agreeing to pay whatever to whomever and get med evacuated or...

    Kona vs. Roatan

Sorry I don't know who on SB did this, but it should be helpful. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=204649945667481876858.00044ee1da77edb824f69&msa=0&ll=19.937205,-155.803986&spn=0.923042,1.058807 For me, it would not be possible to go to Kona and not go to the Mauna Kea observatories. It...

    How old is "too old"?

"At 71 I have to be realistic. I appraise my abilities and condition before every dive, and every year I make whatever adjustments that time may make necessary. I'll continue to dive for as long as whatever kind diving to which changing circumstances limit me remains enjoyable. I think I've got...
