    Catalina Island And Dr Bill

Yeah, it was awesome, even if I blew a deco stop at the Sue Jac... d'oh! Dived three at Casino Point, and off the boat, did Sea Fan Grotto, Isthmus Reef, and Hen Rock. Great dive sites all around, and dang do I envy the vis out there!!! It was terrific to meet Dr. Bill!

Advice on keeping hot shoe connection?

Thanks for the advice! I wrote to Ike so I could get the rubber bumper for the 7070, and asked about the slippage. They said I could send it to them so they could check if the connection is loose, with about 2 weeks turnaround time, so after Catalina, that's what I'll do, since I'm scared to...

Where to buy a used Oly C-7070??

I grabbed mine recently for $550 and was glad to get it. They're hard to find!

Advice on keeping hot shoe connection?

I think, after my Catalina trip, I am going to do that in the hopes of a permanent solution. I saw a note on Ike's website that there were some slippage issues with their Olympus housings and to 'close the case carefully' so the connection isn't unseated, but this isn't sufficient. In the...

Advice on keeping hot shoe connection?

I'm bumping up this dusty thread because I'm still having this problem, though I've just upgraded to the C-7070. The suggestion I have right now is for sticky velcro. Has anyone else been having this problem, how did you fix it, and if you used velcro, what was the exact arrangement you used...

Monterey Bay Aquarium White Shark 2006

Have they replaced those Soupfins yet? Shark tailfin soup seems to be the food of choice for the developing whiteys.

    No Reg Stealer at BW

That's what I said! He did get some pretty cool pictures of a Hopkins rose though. And Ben, nice to meet you finally too! And I'm saving the reg. The dive shop where I'm moving isn't well stocked, so I'm hoping by the time I leave, I'll have a fully redundant set up. I'll save the tech...

    Bad Buddy... no cookie!

Thanks! Yup, the sand in Monterey can be fun, so long as you don't land on an electric ray (might charge up your camera battery though). I *try* to stay off the bottom, but with that much surge, you're not going to really stir anything up, nor is there any concept of those "fine particles"...

Warning for Monterey Divers (especially women): Beware of Fred

LOL, sorry 'bout that, Dan. We parked at Lover's 3 and went off the beach and decided to round the point and come in at Lover's 2. We did realize we were kind of wandering across a wedding, so went around though... Didn't have my formal wetsuit on. Good dive though! Gets you way out there...

    How bad is it...

No way... after what those sticky-fingered halfwits did to my guitar case (from the way the wood was completely split down the neck, I can only assume they dropped it directly on the nut end from a height of 20 or 30 feet, and perhaps then attempted to kick in the end to make it fit better...

    Bad Buddy... no cookie!

Hmm... I'm the bad buddy a lot because I'm a photographer. I do try to be mindful of where my buddy is and let people I'm diving with know that sometimes they'll need to poke me to make sure I'm still alive (slow diver). Worst buddy by far was when I had about 20 dives (as did my normal...

    How do you protect yourself

I'm currently carrying one knife... a tiny little nothing knife on the inside of my leg that has a line cutter. I bought it for ab diving because I'm intensely paranoid about entanglement when I don't have an air source, and wanted an arm knife. I'm waiting to replace the support on my usual...

    No Reg Stealer at BW

So happy!!! First, haven't gotten wet (except for a dive at Gerstle on the camping trip) for a while, so headed down to Monterey with Jim this weekend. Really nice conditions; flat as a pancake, and despite a bit of a nasty red tide near the surface on Sunday, vis really opened up...

2006 North Coast Camp & Dive

Ah, no, not what I meant... though I dove the Channels a couple years ago, and it was an absolutely balmy 60 degrees at night. Still, no CA divers tend to be called 'warm water wussies' by anyone who isn't from Washington. No, in January, I'm moving to Grenada for medical school... water...
