Does anyone know if how full the flights are on Cebu Pacific? I just booked something like 11 different legs with them. My wife (filipina) would not let me pay the extra 100 Php per leg to reserve seats. She said it was wasteful.
Anyone ever get bumped from an over booked flight?
Also has anyone been able to book online with an American Visa card? Neither one of mine would work and had to use one drawn on a Philippines account.
Thanks to all of you, and I can't wait to join you all there!!!

Actually one more thing. Talked the Mrs into letting me stay an extra day in Cebu before heading down to the homestead in Zamboanga. I am looking for a nice hotel near the airport in Cebu. I am really leaning towards Waterfront Hotel and Casino. Any suggestions are welcome. :D

I haven't flown with Cebu Pacific yet (will take my next flight with them in a couple of weeks) - but the way I read this seat reservation thing is that your spot on the flight is guaranteed without it. The only advantage of reserving a seat is if you want to sit in a certain spot on the plane (e.g. you and your wife want to make sure you can sit together). Since most of these flights are rather short, I agree with your wife. I didn't bother reserving seats for my flights.
(ok I'm a cheapskate I know - 100 PHP is ~US$2)

I was thinking they may do the Soutwest Airlines deal, where it's first come first serve. Thanks for the info!!

Flown with them many times, have yet to be bumped off a flight, though they do have the odd cancellation, and delays are not unusual.

Z...

Yeah I have built in a few extra hours for each leg to account for delays.

Kevin, I've flown with them quite regularly on Internationals to Manila

- As per another note I have put on here, they do now consider Scuba Gear as sports equipment, so pre book it when booking your tickets.

- They are pretty hot on baggage weight, if ticket says 15kg, they'll try and charge you if you go more than a kg or two over.

- Pre booking seats, nah don't bother. If you were the very last to check on it might mean you sitting away from the partner, but otherwise no benefit.

- Being bumped off flights. No, but they do occasionally change their schedules after you have booked, and don't tell people. So do check your flight times a couple of days before any flight with them. I was booked on a flight in November 1 month in advance, and it was only by chance I found out they had moved the departure time to 10 hours earlier !

- Flying back from MNL to TPE just two weeks back, having checked in and sitting at the boarding gate waiting to board, they announced "due to unexpected passenger volume if your travel dates are flexible and you can give up your seat and fly tomorrow - please come to the desk"

No one went to the desk !

2 minutes later they announced "if you give up your seat, we will give you guaranteed flight next day, and a free return ticket to use in the future"

No one went to desk but a few began to think about it ..

2 minutes later they announced " "if you give up your seat, we will give you guaranteed flight next day, and TWO free return ticket to use in the future"

Alas I stalled hoping they'd raise it to THREE free tickets, but half a dozen took the offer of flight the next day, plus TWO return flights to use in future !!

Anyway, that I think is as close as you'll come to being bumped off a flight !

I've travelled quite a few times with them, they are cheap as they jam passengers on and leg room is poor, but they are normally on time, don't lose baggage, and no problems when I have flown with them.

Enjoy your trip.

Cheers

1) I was never able to use my credit card to book a flight on the internet.

2) You cant get any closer to the airport than the waterfront, but I always use the Belavista Hotel on Mactan if I have an early flight.. Free Breakfast and Free Airport Transfer...

Cheers

Yeah my wife actually had to book through a sister travel agency in the philippines for our tickets. (She's a travel agent here in Kuwait)
Not even our philipines credit card would work. (It does only have the Maestro symbol) But no worries all is now booked and we only paid a bit more than the listed prices online. (Everybody's gotta make a buck!)

Booked multiple trips, international and domestic, on Cebu Pac with both US Mastercard and a Visa through their website. No Problems here, although I live here and both my card issuing banks know that I use my cards here a lot. That might have something to do with it. I've used them with Philippine Airlines too.

The only hotel in Cebu I stay at it is the Shangri-La.

That is interesting, I dont have a problem using my CC online with anyone else, only Cebu Pacific..I think it is a problem with their system, infact on a couple of instances when I was still committed to using Cebu Pacific before I made the switch to PAL I discussed the issue with some of their customer service folks and they indicated the same. But that was over a year ago....
