My response here is a bit late, but I'm having some trouble with this. If I understand correctly, a longer DSMB is straddled, correct? So for a not full DSMB, this is going to result in the lowest point (crotch) to have no gas, and some gas at both ends, only one of which has an OPV. As you dump gas from the front (I'm assuming you have this part of the DSMB in front of you), how are you to manage the expanding gas in the part of the DSMB that is behind your back?
Scoot back. You'll be fine.

Edit: But if you do get it balanced out, you're golden.

A 2m dsmb has less than 10kg of lift btw
I think many of the 2m ones are pretty wide as well. One popular choice cites 18 kg/40 lb of lift (and is only 1.7 m long). Still, your point is valid, and a drysuit would be my first choice in a technical scenario.

Guys, seriously.
Just shoot it to the surface and climb the rope.
Agreed.
A 2m dsmb has less than 10kg of lift btw, so don't expect to do it with a twinset and stages.
Well, girth is quite important in more areas than one.

Yup. 40 lbs of lift should take care of most divers. If you have that many stages, get a rebreather!
That string would be next to your belly button. I think you could manage. 😉
ah yes, my drawing is incorrect. I was thinking of a lift bag. My bad. I wouldn't want this thing in front of my face, nor the task of pulling down the top of the DSMB so that gas would escape from the OPV.

It just doesn't make sense to me. I'm in agreement with @Vicko.

A rebreather doesn’t really decrease the number of stages one needs. Please don’t propagate this.

I mean if you plan on surviving a rebreather malfunction you are basically carrying all the gas you would on oc and a rebreather.

I actually have 2 25kg lift bags stuffed between the padding and my plate just in case i completely flood my Pathfinder and my bcd breaks, gives me enough lift not to have to leave the baby on the bottom.

Wow, 40 lb. of lift is a lot more than many I've seen of similar sizes. Though many places don't list SMB lift, DGX does:

Or a backup rebreather.

Compared to your drawing with expanding gas behind you? Mmmm, OK...

Before you put any of these ideas into your guide, I urge you to personally test them. I believe you'll have fun doing it.

oh, this particular idea is definitely not going into my guide. I'm just entertaining the conversation in this thread.

But about my drawing, I'm quite the Picasso, am I not?
