I have had a spool come undone in my pouch and become tangled

I was referring to being hard to tangle during use. But you raise a good point that securely storing a spool isn't as obvious as it is with a reel. The simplistic "clip a double-ender through a hole" isn't very reliable, so it's worth researching better storage options if using a spool.
